Roscoe:

  1. Nice looking heli!
  2. You have water in your backyard - you gotta do the floats!
  3. Thanks for adding some heli pictures to your gallery.

I had great luck recently with a set-up I got from tutelar. I'll post a new subject now about tail motors.

Gotta try out those floats, looks like fun.

Lake Vernon, Huntsville, Ontario (should be frozen over soon )

I used to fly without floats, but lost my BCPP in 13' of water for over a week. No problems now! Even if one float/skid breaks off in a crash, the heli will still float with the other one - and I have never broken both skids during a land crash (yet, give me time).

tutelar-rc,
Yeah, winter sucks! Maybe some ski's on the heli's for the winter month's; just a thought.lol
That's a small 7 acre lake you see in the background of my pic's; at the other end of the lake there's a guy who has RC sailboat race's on the weekend's; many a time I've been tempted to buzz them with my heli's.

Float's it is, thanks.

NEW CP PRO

I've flown planes for a bit. Have the G4 and been playing with Heli's on it. Next thing I know I'm getting an education on them and I got the bug!! My first is the CP PRO. Heard if I can fly that I can fly about anything. Thought I was going to be a natural like with the planes. Turns out the SIM is ALLOT easier. I messed up with crap for real flight time. That Pro wants to fly all over the place!! I went back to the SIM and changed the cell from a 3 to a 5 and it is more realistic. I got the landing gear/training gear and bought longer rods for it and went with the plastic blades. I also added alittle weight to the top rotor. Any other suggestions or just keep practicing as much as I can?

Thanks

KEvin

  1. Follow Radd's to learn how to hover:
(Your plane experience will help you progess fast into FF once you master hovering.)
  2. Follow SSG Scott's advice to get your heli properly set up:

    (Especially after a crash)
  3. Great instructions to repair your heli:

CP+

Anyone using the DX6i with the CP+? I just picked up the DX6i over the weekend and am looking for some info on the settings. I just finished setting the DX for use with my G3.5 and will be giving it a try later. Had thought of getting something a little larger but after reading some of the posts, I think I will just upgrade it with better parts. Any suggestions on servos, gyro and aftermarket parts?
Anyone in north central Florida aware of a Fun Fly this coming Friday, 6:30 PM to 10:00 PM at the Rock Audtorium on 24th Ave? Will be there just observe and maybe get some tips.

Since you are swapping receiver's, you might want to go with the DD tail mod and HH gyro too, IF you plan on upgrading, it really makes a difference on the tail.
Or you can get the new blade cp pro2, which has most of the upgrades already, but you pay for it either way.
Upgrading the CP+ can cost as much as buying the new CP pro2.
just my 2 cents.

I have mine on the dx6i, but it's not stock; as far as the dx6i settings, there are a few setting sheets floating around here, mostly for the dx7 or dx6.
Here's a link to one for the dx6 for the stock blade pro that will be a good start; you are still gonna have to tweak some of the settings though.
dx6 settings for blade cp.

tutelar-rc, those TP lipo's are great, lot's of power.
Got mine dialed in pretty good now, tail holds great (with gws motor) up to about 90%-95% throttle, punch it above that and it will kick out, but with all the power it has now I don't need to slam it for it to scoot (really is a little rocket).
After I burn up the brushed tail motor, I'm switching over to your brushless tail set-up. Still have to try some flips to see how good the tail really holds with the brushed tail tho.
As soon as I'm happy with everything (almost there), I'll get the floats on, then post some pic's.

Happy and safe Flying.

I upgraded my servo's to the eflight digitals... wow... what a huge difference. I can "feel" the heli out now.

I also added the carbon blades... holy s**t. Talk about squirrly. Definitely going to take some practice with those bad boys.

Gyro works now, for a change. The last flight i had the other day, i set it down and said aloud "damn, that flies nice". Who would have guessed anyone would say that about MY pro. hehe. Got it dialed in now! Now i'm just scared to screw up my adjustments by crashing...

Nice flying DougsRC, you da man!
Do you still have the brushed tail motor on your blade? Seems like it holds real well for you; oh, and nice looking canopy too.

Keep up the good stuff.

Roscoe, My latest Blade has a belt drive set-up I made from a couple of different heli parts- HDX 300, HB King 2, it works great ! I liked the GWS tail motor but they enventually wear out without warning and the buzzin noise started to irritate me

Yeah, I like my buzzin a different way .lol
Nice set-up, you should do a post on it, not many people have Blades with a belt drive set-up. I for one would like more info.

Nice flying!

Although I prefer my BL tail, I would really like to see the details of how you connected the tail boom to the main frame... you definitely have a talent for putting odd pieces together!

I think the weight is about the same- not sure But I used the King 2 boom and tail blade grips, pitch slider.I made a larger pitch lever out of curcuit board material. A B400 tail shaft, King 2 belt, a HDX300 plastic pully that was drilled out to fit snug over the nub on the bottom of the maingear held in place with two grub screws. Dremeled off the boom block of an old King 2 frame and wrapped Kevlar thread around it, saturate it with CA. It's a total hack job but it does actually work quite well. I wouldn't really recommend it, a BL tail is just as good,or a belt drive kit for about 100 bucks but I had the parts laying around so I figured "What the Hell"

Kevlar thread?!? I thought it was elastic bands... I guess I won't be able to do that mod.

Cool, just the same! You definitely know how to make unique helis out of these parts...

Thanks, and happy flying!
