I'm building another Protos and was curious if everyone is still using the recommended 16mm distance. I seem to recall a discussion awhile back and some were recommending a shorther distance of around 14mm due to the fact that at 16mm the swash values had to be pretty high. I'm running 9650's if it matters.

I'm running 9650's on my review thread Protos and used the recommended 16mm dimension with no problems. My Swash mix values are +60, +60 and -60.

What in the world is your pitch curve, collective pitch range, and cyclic pitch setup? I have no idea how you could have kept your Swash AFR values that high.

I just setup the head on my protos and with the stock futaba values of 50,50,50, I get cyclic ranges off the chart (like 15++/15++ on pitch and 10++/10++ on cyclic). I had to put down everything down to 45,45,45 so I could at least read the pitch gauge. I'm now at like 14.5/-14.5 and 8/-8 on cyclic.

Is it just me or is this kit giving similar pitch ranges than a flybarless setup? Jeez.

Tony

Mine had pitch over +-15 when I set it up. I had to back it down to about 50 on my 9303 to get +-12. At 60% I get about 9 degrees on the aileron and it makes perfect axial rolls. I had to bump the elevator up to about 70% to get 9 degrees.

I am running JR 3421's with 16mm out on servo arms. On mine if I shorted it to 14mm the link rod on the PIT and ALR would hit the top of the frame at full collective.

ELE 50%
Alr 50%
Pit 45% 14 deg+-
All travels are at 100%

Just set mine up tonight. Didn't measure anything. Just picked the arms that looked good and went from there.
Set the cyclic for 7 degrees and +/- 13 on pitch.

Fired up the NEW scorpion 60 ESC and within one min of running on the bench blew all the smoke out of it. HAHAHA ...Damn POS

OH well time to install the used CC80 I've had on the shelf.

Im using the Align DS520.
Pit 50%
Ele 50%
Ail 40%

4th hole out on Futaba cross horns, however much that is.
Just went for the straightest shot to the swash.

Pitch range is 12deg both ways, and 9 deg of cyclic.

This is on a DSX9.

If you bling it, they will come :D

16mm was way too much for me, I used the next hole in for better servo resolution on my DX7 using 9650s

65
65
45

Gives me +-12 degree and plenty of cyclic with expo at +20, its very smooth on hover.

I don't know how others can do 16mm and go 60 60 60, my head would explode

Its the same on futaba. I went with the recommended 16mm and I was getting over 16/16 both sides.

I'm now at PIT=40%, AIL and ELE at 47% and my setup is 14/-14 and 9/-9

I'm going to move the ball links closer to the servo center. although 16mm is working I can start feeling the lack of resolution. The bird becomes quite jumpy at 40% (14/14). Hopefully I can get something more like 50 or even 55 with the balls further in.

watch that headspeed, your into danger territory there IMO.
Ive run mine at 3300, and although amazingly fast, it was a pig to fly.
Unpredictable, skittish, not locked in at all.
Plus your batteries will have a short hard life lol

If you bling it, they will come :D
