Thanks for your post Harris
I ensure you it was not human error!!
If it was human error I would have said that was the case and not let all my fellow modelers try to help me find a cause!!
And by the way it was a light breeze!!! Were you there?
Hi DaXXXn , I'll be going back out to the flying field to see if i can find the missing link. It could give me a clue to what happened, to be quite honest I’ve never liked Vario links there to soft IMO, I’ll be changing all the swash / head links before I test it again.
After the tip over /crash every thing worked fine no loss of servo function no stripped gears btw the servos were new Futaba BLS351 metal geared servos x 4 on swash plate.
After the tip over i hit hold and the engine went to a pre-set idle so that counted out radio failure at that point.
Heli Headcase I tested the flight pack battery and going by the 8 Ball tester it showed 8.3 volts under load so that’s fine.
Hi Jack loved video of the Panther looks sweet I see you changed it from nitro to electric it seem like most scale guys are going that way.

Cheers Patty

Hi Patty,

It clearly wasn't pilot induced as you mentioned you were getting this pitch dip previously. It has to be something electronical to cause that. I'm also sure that the missing link will not tell you anything as the links will get thrown or damaged when the blades go in.
Did you check to see if the Helitronix gyros were still firmly in place?

Cheers
D

PS I would prefer you give me four X

That's it Carvo
Well done, yes the fifth ball on the swash driver came out during the hover.and that is what caused it to tip over and do all the damage.

Ah...

The swash driver ball gone missing does explain a few things. Once the ball fell out, the inner swash ring rotated which pulled down on the pushrods instantly providing negative pitch (assuming the grip pitch arms were of the leading variety), and the sudden drop. Now with the phasing completely mucked up, the cyclic gyros had no idea how to create a proper fore/aft, left/right correction and "corrected" the poor Dauphin left (and slightly aft) into the ground.

See, I told you it wasn't a link! Didn't know it was really a ball

Hi Heli Headcase
I didn't notice it till i pulled the mechanics out of the fuzz, i wasn't looking in that area of the heli at that time, then i started looking at with a fine tooth comb,it was the last thing i would of thought a missing swash driver ball i had to look at a couple of times before i saw it missing.
Was an expensive lesson this time it's going to have RED locktite !!

Good that you localized the problem, sorry for the blades but in the end the damage could be much worse, its a nice feeling when everything works as it should especially on a scale like yours there time and effort are puttet in!

Cheers

Vario Dauphin

Nice to see someone else building a Dauphin. I am in the process of converting my Dauphin over to electric. I can't wait to get the thing in the air! I do have some questions on your build.

*What type of electronics are you running on the head (ie Skookm, Heletronics).

*At what voltage are you running the vario retracts.

*What tail servo are you using for the fenestron.

*What gyros are you using.

Additionally, where did you come up with the colored swash and other parts?

Thanks.

Hi Flint
All the questions you have asked are within the build thread but here it is again.
I'm using the Helitronix multi mixer coupled up with 2 CSM 720 Gyros on the head ,if you look back in the build you will see how i mounted the system.
The main and front retracts couple up to the Vario retract receiver Vario part number 19/12 then that goes to the RX receiver it supply's 4.8V.
Tail servo is a Futaba Hi Toque S9206 works great !!
Tail Gyro is a Futaba 401.
The coloured mechanics are a standard Vairo X-Treme mechanics i would of likes black but it's just how they come.
Post some pics of your Dauphin build Flint i'm sure everybody would enjoy the build.
I'm still thinking about changing mine to electric in the future maybe
Hope this helps.
If you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask
Cheers Patty

Thanks

Thank you for the information. It looks as if we have the same set up, with the exception of 401's on the Heletronics. I'll post some photo's soon.

401

Thanks for the information. I saw the CSM's back in the build portion. I'm going with the 401's, only because i and use to dealing with them. I have about twelve hours left on the conversion over to electric. I don't want to jack your thread but I will post some pictures next week. I think electric will be the way to go.
