How's it going mate?
I'm pretty stuck with the nitro for now,but i here ya, all the scale guys are going electric.
I have a EC135 still in a box that's going to be electric when i start it but need to finish the Dauphin first.
Have you any pics of your super cobra sweet heli it'd be nice to post some pics.

yeah will post shortly, working on the moving flir and gun turrent at the moment. making up instrument panel with balsa as well and getting a light system made which will illuminate the rear of the dash but i need a lazer printer to print out the instruments on transperency film. ink jet wont do it, it wont dry enough.

my wife says no more helis!!!!! " what's that dear, i cant hear you!"

Hi Guys
Well I'm back working on the Dauphin, I'm in the process of fitting the pilots and cockpit detail i had to give the pilots a tummy tuck and shorten there legs by 30mm to be in proportion to the cockpit, I have some mini checker plate to do the floor with at a later stage I'll be fitting the nav lights after I'm happy with the dash,over head console ,pilots & dummy controls.
Here's a couple of pic's to where I'm at now.

I still might call on you for that, i just need to get a proper pic of the Dauphin dash, i'm not happy with the one that comes with the Vario cockpit it looks to toyish

The build is coming along good the lighting system is finished just waiting on a 5200 mah lion battery to support all the auxiliaries and leave the main battery for the flight pack that powers reg ,servos , gyro s etc..
Iv'e made the flir & spot light hanging of the front removable for transportation i can see them getting hanger rash down the line.

I'm not going to run a tuned pipe on the Dauphin as planed, I've settled on a Zimmermann muffler ,but because of the change i came up against a issue where the front of the muffler was hitting the back of the co pilot's helmet by about 40mm, so i had to do a mod and aluminium weld the header to another adaptor and extend and drop the muffler under the cabin floor.
So apart from testing the engine to see if the mod has altered the exhausts timing it should be a go'er

That's an interesting concept. It really puts the silencer out of sight that way. The added header length could provide a peak power RPM that would effectively help govern the engine's speed. It looks to me long enough (via camera and eyeball) but you'll have to experiment and see.

Did you do the welding on that second mounting flange? It looks very well done from here.

Excellent work Patty. Very clever idea to get the exhaust outof the way and out of sight. Do think you'll need to add some heat shielding to the lower fuselage and frame work?

I'm hoping it wont be to hard to tune,the muffler is for a 70 /90 engine so it's the right size,I welded it my self, i have a system that i used to use when i was into racing model boats and modifying tuned pipes etc..if you look in my gallery you'll see a Hatori gasser muffler i modified for my Spectra G's
Hi Irogers yes i'm thinking of putting some sort of heat shielding to protect the wiring and bottom of the fuse down the track,
I need to be careful by not adding to much weight it's getting up there and it's not painted yet !!

Well the Dauphin's ready to test fly, just need to wait for good weather i refitted the mechanics today for the last time before painting I've fitted aAuxiliary 4800Mha lion battery to run the Nav lights & winch separate to the flight pack,the flight pack is a 5200 Mha lion at the moment it weighs around 11 kg s and still needs paint and fine detail.

Well the time came to test fly the Dauphin the first hover was good just needed a bit of a tune up leaned it up a bit and was all sounding good i have been a bit Sceptical about the OS 70 having enough power but it did it easy even at 11.5 kg's in weight unpainted !! .I was very happy with how the Fenestron tail preformed
From what i can gather it seems like a bloody $1 Dollar link came of the blade grip coming from the swash plate.
The heli it self has not got a mark on it but i'm up for a bill in blades & main shaft only will be just under a $1000 bucks ,Bugger !!!
She'll be back up soon enough

Not a link as suspected...

I watched the crash video many times and can definitely proclaim the rollover was NOT caused by a link on a grip. If it was as you say, there's only be some vibration or increased torque to the main rotor causing the body to start spinning.

That roll action was due to the swash tipping hard left. But now to figure out why.

How much was the weight? That's equal to 25.4lbs!

How about this as a possibility...

I know there was a stiff wind during the test but what caused the sudden drop to the ground? Was that you pulling back on the collective in a 'panic twitch' or did the heli drop hard all by itself?

What receiver power supply are you using?

What voltage regulator (if installed) are you using?

What receiver are you using?

I know you have brushless digital servos and they can draw many amps if asked.

The reason for these questions is to see if the servos could have lost power momentarily along with a total system brownout.

There was a bit of a breeze but nothing that would upset the heli.the heli just dropped by it self i felt good while it was hovering very steady then just like that it dropped went on its side before i could do a thing. after it rolled over i hit hold and walked over to asses the mess
I'm using XPS Extreme Link Power System i have it in all my other helis and it works fine,i recently sent all my RX's and TX module back to XPS for the for the v3.0 firmware upgrade so it's all up to date.
I'm running my battery through a Arizona Duel Voltage regulator which i have in 4 other helis i never have issues with these regs.
The flight pack is a Formeco Relion 5200 Mah Battery and it was fully charged the morning before the flight.
The receiver is as above XPS 10 Ch RX

Dammit! Your radio setup seems to be robust enough to (almost) rule out any weak points there. Why did it drop? That's the key question and is providing us with a clue to follow.

That drop must have been a precursor to the cause of the roll over. What happened? I'm still thinking along the line of a temporary electrical power fluctuation. It's not impossible and would explain everything.

the drop is the curious thing, but it did drop level to rule out single servo failure.
The drop impact itself could have caused something to come loose (servo lead or Helitronix Gyro for example) and cause the rollover.
I have been speaking with Pat and my concern is the drop more than the rollover perhaps.
