Hummingbird setup...PLEASE help

Having problems setting up my hummingbird with a 9C. Is it normal to have to install the gyro upside down in comparision to the instructions. I also had to reverse the trim for the rudder channel as well. Actually all the trims are reversed. This seems to be the only way to keep the heli from spinning. From the pics I see thought this seems to be backwards. Thanks for any replies.

Got it to hover with above config. However I have always had Heading Hold gyros . What should the behavior be like? Should it want to spin as the head spead increases. Seems like I have to constantly give it left input. I am using the century gyro that came with it.

Thanks,
Mike

If the gyro is not working, the tail will need right rudder input constantly.
If the gyro is reversed, it is even worse.
If the gyro is set-up correctly, it will respond and counter the torque instantly.
Check your Gyro set-up.
-unplug your main motor
-leave the tail motor plugged.
-hold your heli w/ one hand and throttle up @ half.
-try to rotate your heli counter clockwise (nose left)
- the tail rotor should run.
- then it's working.
-try to rotate your heli clockwise (nose right)
- the tail rotor should stop
- if it runs, then it's reversed

I tired that but the tail just runs continously like it was hooked up to the throttle. I have the throttle on Ch3 and the rudder on Ch4.

Are you using the Hummingbird Control Board?
If you are then check your radio mixes.. the control board does'nt need it. I suspect that if you are using a high end radio and you put it in heli mode, there is a tail rotor mix default that is already pre-programmed.
Try using the airplane mode and turn off all mixes..start simple and it's easier to trouble shoot problems.

Gyro upside down....
the only way that you can reverse the action of the gyro is to either mount it right side up or down...there is no reverse switch on that simple gyro.

For some readon when it starts to lift off the ground the tail spins and stops. I inhibited all the mixes on the radio. I also tried unhooking the motor power. At about 3/4 throttle the tail will start spinning. If i move the tail the motor does speed up or slow down to try to stop the movement correctly. However when the blades start spinning it seems to fight itself. The mixing board is stock.

getting fustrated so maybe I should stop for now

Are you saying that the tail rotor will only start spinning at 3/4 throttle?
If that is the case, the tail rotor is late, no wonder you're always adding
right rudder.
The tail rotor should start spinning as soon as you advance the throttle,
or as soon as the gyro sense a torque induced by the main rotor blade.
The reaction of the tail rotor blade should be instant with respect to the gyro sensing any body rotation.
Check your throttle travel volume for correct setting.

The first time I set up my hummingbird, I made a mistake of inserting the main motor esc input into the rudder and the tail rotor esc input to the throttle on the receiver. The effect was that i can hover it but only for a few seconds because it is very difficult to control the tail. And the main rotor will suddenly turn when I try to pick up the helicopter. I corrected the problem by plugging the esc's to their right places, the helicopter flew perfectly after that.

Good luck.

Dooohh....... I rewired this thing about 20 times but got it right now. The tail likes to spin slowly so I just messed with the rudder trim and seems to be ok now. Thanks

I have some Revo mixed in on mine at the low end of the throttle and seems to work just fine. No Revo on the top end BTW.

I had my first good day with the Hummer.

I have a 9CHP as well. After following this, and many other threads, I double-checked the radio settings.
Turns out the HELI-1 setting does have revo' mixed in.

I turned off the revo' mixing and got some great sustained hovers and a few good flights.
Before, I used to spend all my time fighting the tail.. swearing something was wrong or reversed.

- happy days!

I am using a JR G410T HH gyro in the case. Works great and the weight does not seem too much.

Running 7x750mah AAA packs but my favorite is 2X1200 E-Tech lithium polymer cells.

Good luck!

'bird setup

Hey all...

When I ordered this thing from helihobby, I picked up a 2 cell 1200mah li-po battery pack and am using the picoboard pro for my HH gyro/mixer/rx solution... HS50's for servos and man this thing is light.

I can get from 15 to 20 minutes flight time and I have to say that this thing is a blast to fly.

Hope Century puts out a CP kit for it soon... ( I know, I know... the other CP kits fit it... I just hope Century comes out with one... what can I say, I'm a loyalist! )

HELP !!!!

i have a humming bird with similar probs ok i got a jr quattro 4ch the century gyro and humming board ok my prob is i gotta add left rud stick to keep it from spining on ground ( clock wise ) but as soon as i get off the heli sins counter clock wise because the rudder when i start giveing throttle the tail starts spining first then the mains when i tryd the gyro it worked fine its not revesed i know that for sure so far the only thing i can think of is that i blew it after a crash but i tryed literaly almost every thing with them same results , spining could it be that the humming board is wire wrong? i never tryed putting the rudder in to throttle and vise versa
