Hi everyone,

I just got a GREAT deal on RFD at a garage sale, $10!!!!

It was sitting in a box along with several other CD's, naturally I jumped on it. Actually the whole box of CD's was $10, with Real Flight Deluxe being one of them!

Alas it is the CD only. I do not want to use any of my R/C gear with an interface cable. How can I purchase a controller like Great Plains sells to control the sim, does any company sell this? Any one on this board have one to sell?

Also how do I know if it will work with RF or a particular sim, I would also like to use it with FMS?

Thanks for the info but I am really looking for a controller not an interface.

What about if I buy a cheap simulator like Easy Fly that comes with a controller like I am looking for.

Could I then use this controller with my RFD or FMS?

Interface for RF

As far as I know.. the developers of RealFlight and G2 have the interfaces and controlers setup special so that you cannot Pirate the software and order a $5 cable to run it. You will most likely have to contact either Great Planes who sell it, or Knifedge who developed it.
Not sure but I'm almost positive the Controller will cost you the same amount as the full version.. Mainly for Pirating reasons.

The RF interface or controller I have not been able to use on anything else.. But I have not tried all the alternatives..

Your best bet is to just call them up at their support line at (217) 398-8970 and explain to them that you bought an original CD at a garage sale and you just need to buy the dummy box. Was the RFD cd in the original jewel case and does it have the sticker on the back with the s/n.? If so, this could be a big help
convincing them you do have a legit CD and you might even suggest to them that you would be willing to send them a photo or scanned image of the CD as proof. They can easily check to see going by the s/n who originally registered it (if it was in the frist place) and if that person was in your area as long as they were the original owners. I doubt the the cost of the dummy box would be the same price as a complete package. That would make it no point for them to care about pirated software when they would get their money back from selling the transmitter box.

I would image it might be at least $75 US. Best thing is to just call them up. Don't bother with emailing them. I did that about 5 days ago and still no response.

I actually called them on this and their tech support said that they don't sell the controller seperate. Although Beezer's comments might help convince them to make an exception. The technical guy I talked to said that in March, they are going to come out with a newer version and controller and you might be able to upgrade or get the controller at that time. No promises though.

Dummys are for sale...

Great Planes Tech support must not know that their Repair Dept will sell the Futaba dummy controller. One (1) can be bought by any licensed user. You will need to provide the serial number. If you have a bootleg copy they will not help you. I am not sure how they will react to your garage sale purchase.

If you get anyone on the line that says they do not sell the controller, then ask for AnnMarie Cross (Manager of the Service Group). She knows what to do and has helped others purchase one at low cost.

But, why not just go back to the house that had the garage sale. There is a chance that the controller is somewhere in their remants.

Wes... I think he wants to get the dummy box because he has the software but nothing to control it with. ie. No interface nor the controller. So he has nothing to trade to you.

I have an interface but I don't want to part with it.

Would like to get the new USB controller/interface but that all depends on price and Great Planes still hasn't returned my email regarding it.

That is correct, I have a legitimate CD, but no controller OR interface.

I went back to the house where I got it and they didn't even know what it was, who knows how it got in that box.

1crny I want that controller!!!! I will get you an interface cable off ebay or elsewhere and have it shipped directly to you first if you still want to do a trade. I am interested in heli's, and have a copy of g2 but it's just not cutting it with my joystick controller because i need both sticks. i have real flight deluxe and i had no controler i have brought a ikarus game commander with easy fly and it works great on realflight mine was 69pound from midland helis uk

game commander

they throw the sim in for nowt so i dont think you will get it much cheaper its a good contoler as it works on every sim i have and it aso workss on pc games like gunship and all the others
not sure about g2 yet havent had a copy of it yet lol
all my sims are copys
