I agree with jamesppp.

I am on the Beam team and have been using the Medusa 1700K motor with a 6S outrage battery and a Jazz ESC for quite some time. I originally had a scorpion motor/ESC but wanted longer flight times. I have been very sucessful with it and get 8-10 minutes of flight time. My head speed is around 2800. It's not the best for extreme 3D but I would rather have longer flight times than 3-4 minutes of stick banging.

There is nothing wrong with experimenting with different motor/battery configurations to suit your needs. I think the Beam is best in its class for a 450.

This fourm is to share knowledge and infomation on the beam, not to bash people's ideas! Enough said.

From what I can see there isn't a Beam team member that lives in Scottsdale, (assume AZ). Don't let the alias fool you into thinking that.

You are correct, though. If he is on the Beam team, he shouldn't represent Beam while discouraging those who enjoy modding their helis.

Why would you ruin a high performance flying Beam E4 by trying to make it a cloned Outrage G5 that flies like crap?

You'd be suprised at what you can do with a high voltage setup with a low kv motor and low amp draw. The company I represent has been doing it for years. I can easily get a "throw around the sky flight" with a 6s pack for 9 solid minutes. Just sport flying can get about 12min. I think it's great for folks to do their on mods on a heli to get out of it what they want. I mean......that is why it is called a HOBBY isn't it?......

A video speaks a thousand words.

The video's out of the Outrage G5 on a 6s setup are sure pretty weak only showing it barily sport flying.

If your into sport flying, doing a few flips and rolls, hoving around, then a 6s setup might be a good thing, flying around for 15 minutes basically doing nothing. It can be a good trainer.

Beam or any other 450 heli will work well with 6s setup.
The market currently lacks 6s1320mah that has 25c rating though.

We fly Neu 1107/1.5y 3850kv motor with 13T pinion with TP3s2200mah pack.

The 1700-2000kv motors are available and so are the 12-14t pinions to give you the same 3200rpm head speed.

The pack you want to fly should weigh about 6oz max not to increase the disc loading (sport flying excluded).

That means you want 6s1320mah pack to handle about 25amp continuous or 20c. Since there are no such pack (that I know of), you have to start getting bigger on the cell size until you get to 25amp draw capacity.

Beam will not care if you are using 3s or 6s as long as you can produce the same head speed while the pack will weight about 6oz total.

As long as you continue to use 325mm blade, you only need to source 25c 6s1300-1500 pack that will weigh 6oz.

You can lower the disc loading by increasing the blade length as DSD is doing.

There are few things that are happening with above setup.

1. greater torque is being generated by the main blade
2. flybar length to main blade length ratio is getting bigger
3. tail rotor will have to work harder to compensate for the increased torque.

Few things to do.

1. Increase the flybar length
2. use 10% larger tail blade or custom tail pulley with more teeth since tail shaft pulley is already small to lose a tooth to speed up the tail.

BTW, bashing other brand is totally uncool for any reps or sponsored pilots. Also, claiming what you fly is the best falls in the same category for reps. That is for other pilots to judge and decide.

Team Beam USA isnt even on the Beam Team. He is just a poser TROLL that joined RR the other day to stir up some trouble.

If he was a Team Beam member, they would can him for bashing paying customers.

Well I got the tail working a little better by putting on slightly bigger tailblades (the K&Bs) also, the LT2100 had the circut board rattling around in the case , put a piece of foam in the case and took the random kick out
The flight time is set at 7min and takes back about 1200
Only have 4 cycles on pack so far...
The FG blades are pretty heavy and slow down the cyclic a bit , need to speed it up some.
It autos real easy though
I may try the 12t pinion next
PS

Darkside, did you put the foam in the bottom of the case of the LT-2100. I opened mine up and the single circuit board appeared to be held captive between the 2 case halves. I have heard about them coming loose and need to do some preventive maintainance.
Thanks

This is a really good thread..... I love to see people try new stuff.

At TeamBeamUSA.... G5 only good for sport flying???? 6s setups are heavy??? It's obvious to us all your completely lost and without a ounce of knowledge when it comes to the info your providing.

Moving forward.. I do not own a Beam but have owned a Trex 450SE and a Mini-Titan heavily moded. The G5 outperforms them both without even breaking a sweat. I don't know if it does a Beam as I've never flown one. All I know is I'm happier than a pig in a mud pin. (No I'm not a G5 rep.... just a satisfied costumer)

This Beam 6s conversion is soooo cool. It's really neat to see someone experiment and get good results from there effort. It's awesome to see people further the hobby and pioneer new ways of doing things. The Beam is a sweet bird no doubt!!! Good job on the 6s conversion.

Lithiumstatic, its funny how you haven't even flown your G5, yet you claim it outperforms both the Trex 450se and Mini-Titan. You'll see soon enough how crappy your OutRage G5 is, and we'll be soon be seeing it soon in the classifieds for sale. Might as well sell it now and get the best 450 ever with the Beam E4.

Here's proof you barily got your OutRage G5 and haven't flown it yet, yet you claim its the best 450 size heli out there.

It went 8:20 today at 100% HS ,pretty good power.
The tail is working now ,dropped the gain and went up to last LED on rotate rate
gonna try a trex flybar (+10mm over Beam)and TT green paddles next
I like it enough now to buy a couple more packs

PS nice thread and pics on HF , lithiumstatic

jamesppp ,
I put the foam between the bottom case and board ,it would cover the LEDs otherwise...
PS, Do Not drop the little set button or it might take you 45min to find it ,like it did me

Therapy, Beam, Outrage, Trex, Mini Titan, and Life

Nothing wrong with therapy -- I'm always open for a little therapy. I wish it wasn't so expensive (my deductable is pretty high on my health insurance).

I stood next to darksidedave today as he flew with the new tail blades. After he flew, an Outrage "rep" flew his Outrage G5. I saw very little difference in flight performance between the two machines.

Next a Thunder Tiger "rep" in our group flew his Mini Titan SE.

Later I flew my Trex V2 and my "regular" mini titan (on it I have the G-Force metal head, etc.).

Earlier, darksidedave flew his Beam E4.

Here's may take: the 6s Beam and the Outrage G5 are great because you have long flight times. The Mini Titan SE blew away my Trex V2 (and of course my "regular" mini titan. I couldn't tell a differnce between the Beam E4 and the Mini Titan SE. Either owner feels theirs is a better perfomer than the other.

I'm a bit confused as to how this is "proof"..... Are you 12 or 13 years old?

I'm currently charging after another wonderful flight earlier today.

I feel there is no (as you say "best" 450 around. They all have some pros and cons imho.

I think the best way to compare all the 450 size helis is to run the same power system on each bird. Let all the helis be setup by the same pilot and that same pilot fly them all back to back. Someone with years of flying under their belt.

Anyways... I'm out of here Beam dudes. Cool thread indeed!
