I was loving this until I got knocked back to reality with the 5 minute flight times.

The answer is simple, multiple battery packs. Fly one out, replace battery, repeat.

Wrong answer, been there done that, spent hours charging, balancing, hauling multiple chargers, power supplies and batteries around. There is a big difference between a solid 8+ minute flight vs. stopping 4-5 minutes in, swapping batteries, starting over etc... It's fine if you are into that, it's just not for me.

I am quite curious to how the 500 would run on A123 packs. If the bird is big enough it would be perfect. Those charge in 10 minutes or less and are nearly indestructable

i have a t-rex 500CF and run it on 5s 4200 revolectrix packs. i get 7 minutes of 3d, good power throughout, better than any of the 6s machines ive flown (ive tried 6s 2500, 3000, 3200 and none have the same punch as mine). id like to see one tried on this 5s setup.

7 minutes sounds much better. I just don't "warm up" until several minutes into most flights. So those last few minutes really count to me.

How about some close up pictures? Or some close up side view shots?
What about some info? Like is this going to come with a motor, esc, blades, etc?

The atom 500 looks great, but if Compass wants to get in the game with the big boys they really need to start selling themselves out and get more exposure. Its all top secret at compass( no pictures,no info, no updates) and it's probably steering away a lot of potential customers. We need some leaked info here guys!!!!!!

i have an Atom!

luke brought it to 3dmasters with him, lots of people taking photos etc so you might see something from others soon.

i hope to have it together later this week and some video taken. will take some pictures too.

its looking good tho. doubt much will change for the production one.

the frameset is excellent its got different size holes for the tail servo in each side. on one side it will take a standard size tail servo, other it takes a 9257.

So when are they comming to the US or are they even going to make it.... I see their only making a short order of 100 so I would think those won't even make it to the US. If only 100 do they plan on starting a second batch shortly after.....

Hey guys, I won the Atom 500 at IRCHA! It is a beautiful looking bird with all the metal and G10 frames, I hope to get it in the air soon. I will let you guys know how it flies when I do!

Nick
If the wings are traveling faster than the fuselage, it's probably a helicopter

Saw the Atom fly at IRCHA. That thing is a rocket. Way faster than a T-Rex 500. Looked like it tracked real nice too. My friend took delivery of his Atom 500 at IRCHA. He built it today in a his spare time (ARF-fast build) and now it just needs blades. I can't wait to fly it. At $455 bucks (U.S.)with motor and speed control I have to get one out of the next batch.

How noisy is the Atom? At 3DM, I noticed the teeth on the main gear look very coarse (mod 1 or more) and I wonder if it makes the heli noisy?

The helis at IRCHA and the ones available for sale were production models. They just didn't have the pretty box or instructions. Its an ARF so anyone with heli set experience will have no trouble with the build. K&BDD said Compass was only playing a little with slightly different anodizing shades on the metal parts. Actually to me it sounded quite quiet. It ran very smooth. The motor didn't even get warm to the touch after a pretty agressive 3d flight. They were also running outrage packs I believe and those things barely felt like they ran them at all. I should have a chance to fly one by the weekend I hope. My buddy picked one up at IRCHA.
