Quark Batteries

Okay, so you guys have pretty much sold me on the Quark. I am saving to get one asap.

Do most of you have more than one battery?

How long can you fly with one battery?

How long does it take to charge the battery?

Are there cheaper batteries that work as well?

I checked out one place that carried parts, the blades seemed a decent price but the batteries were $67 ea., unless there is something very special about the batteries that seems pretty high in comparison to $20 for an 800mah for the cx2.

When I get my Quark, I am probably going to get an extra package of blades, I could see eventually using them, not sure what to do about the battery though, would like a second but that is a lot of cash.

vsnyder8, I have 2-Hirobo lipos and 2-TP lipos. The Hirobo stock lipos take about 45 mins to charge and flight time is around 9 mins. The TP lipos flight time is around 11- 12 mins and take 15 mins to charge with my 1010C charger. Here is some info from another one of my posts:
You can use the Thunder Power 730mAh Lipo with the Quark and they are selling for $29.99. You will get another 250mAH which will give you more flight time and the extra weight is only 3 grams.

Here are the Specs between the two Lipos:

Thunder Power RC Pro Lite 730mAh 7.4V 2 Cell LiPO
730 mAh
34 grams
Length: 55mm
Width: 33mm
Thickness: 9.5mm

Hirobo Stock 7.4V 2 Cell Lipo
480 mAh
31 grams
Length: 61.5mm
Width: 37.5mm
Thickness: 9.2mm

You will need to purchase some Molex connectors for plugging into the stock Quark module and to make a charger adapter. I ordered these from http://digi-key.com and these are their part #'s:

WM1850-ND connector for charging cable.
WM1841-ND male contacts for the charging cable connector.

WM1845-ND connector for Lipo
WM1837-ND female contacts for the Lipo connector.
If you search this forum you will find answers to all your questions.

Hi,

Just ordered the Quark and did not want to spend an arm and a leg for the Hirobo battery.

These connectors are almost the same as for the XRB. The pins are the same. Is the battery you have a 2 pole molex? The XRB has a 3 pole molex.

Did anyone tried to fit them?

Can't see why Hirobo would switch connectors.

Thanks

Blik, nice job on the research. I may try two of the TP packs on my Quark.

The Quark is a really relaxing heli to tool around the yard with. I could see having Quark races or any number of events with these tiny machines. This is one heli that is really stable but maneuverable enough to really enjoy without getting bored to tears with.

I've had mine go into failsafe and drop to the grass with the result being one broken blade and 5 minutes later it is back flying again.

BTDT, the Quark molex connectors are a two pole so not sure why it is different than the XRB?

You can almost buy three of the Thunder Power 2S 730mAh lipos and pick up the Molex connectors from DigiKey for the same price as one Hirobo stock lipo. I would definately buy a few extra contacts because they are very small and easy to damage when installing. I have a servo wire crimper I purchased from Hansen Hobbies that crimp the small Molex connectors perfectly. At first I tried soldering the contacts but it was a pain. http://www.hansenhobbies.com/produc...tools/crimp_dx/

TMoore, as you know being resourseful in this hobby is a bonus. This Quark is definately a plug and play heli and you sure spend more time in the air than fixing and tweaking.

Thanks Blik,

I have a few XRB connectors from last time and will see if I can cut off the 3rd pole to make it work when I get my new toy . If not I'll order a few connectors. Thanks again for the info.

Just got my Quark yesterday. Cool toy, Cutting one of the poles and triming one edge of the pole does work for those who already have the 3 pole molex.

Just wished I had the batteries already!!

Where are my batteries, JAN ???????????

Eggroll, make sure you purchase a Lipo compatible charger for safety reasons. If you are thinking of staying in this hobby and possibly going to larger electrics then you might as well pay now then buying something cheap and having to upgrade in the future. I personally use ThunderPower chargers but there are many good chargers out there that will work. I personally own the first two chargers below and would recommend the TP-610C because it will charge all types of batteries and comes with a built in Lipo balancer.

Best Will charge 1 to 10 cell LiPo and A123 cells, 1-14 NiCd and NiMH cells, and 6-12V Pb (Lead Acid) batteries and LCD readout - no balancer included.

Good Will charge 1 to 6 cell LiPo and A123 cells, 1-14 NiCd and NiMH cells, and 6-12V Pb (Lead Acid) batteries. Comes with built in cell balancer and LCD readout.

OK Will charge 1 to 5 cell LiPo Only - no balancer included.

Eggroll, not trying to scare you but spend the extra $29.00 and buy a LipoSack or something to charge your lipos in. Check out this video:
