What led you to disconnect the negative lead?
I've exclusively used the ESC's signal wire successfully in the past, so I naturally did the same here. I admit I was not aware the negative lead was required for the signal, and strange that worked without noticeable problems in the past on another electric 450 size heli.

I guess I made a bad assumption by not including the negative wire with the signal wire.

Update:
Since the Jazz 55 ESC and separate BEC I have had zero motor issues. It must have been the ESC not liking this motor and/or onboard BEC was failing some how. It would have been nice to has the Jazz 40 since it is lighter in weight including a BEC.
