Now, not trying to bash or anything but...

I just watched this Frank Columbia guy's vid and, I don't see how the hell he was able to get into that competition. There was nothing "extreme" about that flight at all. Even I can do better than that! I am just amazed at how there are so many other good pilots that tried out for XFC, and somehow that guy gets in!

OK, flame suit on

I suppose because he had the testicular fortitude to go there, sign up and qualify standing next to the best pilots on the planet.

I enjoyed his video. Nice smooth flying. Just because one is not stick banging and cracking for 4 minutes does not mean it's not extreme.

No what I'm saying is I know people who signed up, but didn't make it that were 10 times better than that guy.

I guess that's the problem with subjective voting.

If this is not bashing someone, I don't know what is.
Frank is not a top 10 contender and he knows it. The difference is that he had the guts to try it out for the underdog qualification and he was one of the 3 who got in. I'm sure you will get in through the try out if you can make it to XFC next year. But, it is uncool and uncalled for to bash someone who flew his hearts out.

He knew that he would not make it to the finals so he had his airplane home booked for the Sunday morning, the day of the finals. This is because he had a realistic goal. He was going to be happy to come in 21st. But, he did better than that.

Have you looked at the airplane side? Using your standard, only top 5 maybe worth attending he xfc on the airplane side. It is tougher for the international airplane guys to make the event due to the extreme luggage. So, this means more opportunities for the underdogs. You should be cheering these guys for their brass balls rather than bashing them.

Just how would you feel if someone said the exact same thing for your performance? Or, would would rather not even attemp it for the fear of someone bashing your flight?

7 slots are seeded from previous year's top 7. 11 are invited based on the video but with priority given to international applicants. The last 3 are picked from anyone who is on location to try out for the pre competition. If some of the invited drops out, those also will be filled by standby pilots at the tryout.

Very true. You are right about that.

I would accept it as their own opinion. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion no matter how wrong it may be

No, not at all. I may attend XFC next year, if I feel I am ready. I'm not gonna fly all the way out to Muncie to come it 18th place.

This years loser may be next years Champion. I took this straight off of Curtis Youngblood's web page in the "about Curtis" section

Quote
Curtis first began his flying career with a "Livewire Champion" trainer airplane almost 25 years ago, in Bryan, Texas. After a couple years of plane flying, he was introduced to the Heliboy helicopter by his Father, Dave Youngblood. He then competed in his first contest at the US Nationals in 1983 taking last place.

Yeah, kinda makes you wonder just how well Ephag Ramorfanni or what ever his name is would do to his first time under that pressure. He said he wouldn't fly out to the event only to come in 18th, But I dont think he has any shot coming close to the top 10 from the looks of his videos. Just my opinion, and like he said I'm intitled to it.

That's the best you can come up with? Nice attempt at a petty insult.

Fair enough. Seeing as to how Jason Krause came in tenth place, I don't think I would. I'm not ignorant. But in a year who knows.

+1

It happens to all of us. It is how one deals with spilt milk determins and builds the character.

I believe this underdog tryout is a very good system that XFC implimented. It also works well to fill the absentee spots in an instant as there will be pilots ready for the tryout. However, I feel that those 3 slots should be reserved for real underdogs but not for pro pilots to get in after the invitatation was done.

It gives an average Joe to mix with the big boys for an unforgettable experience.

It turns out that there were few drop outs in airplane side but they could not fill all the slots because there were not enough pilots trying out (this means all the underdogs in airplane side got in).

FYI:

There were 5 tryout heli pilots at the XFC 2007 and same for 2008.

Good job Frank, least you were there....got me beat this year!

Perhaps there should be a KFC next year for all those keyboard pilots that can hover rock solid in front of the computer.

See you at IRCHA.

Now that's just plain funny! If you win (by holding a solid tail in hover for 10 seconds within a 10 ft. circle) you win a bucked of extra crunchy drumsticks.

Only problem is I don't think all of the keyboard experts could fit in one KFC.

Frank definitely did a wonderful job of demonstrating impeccable flying ability. I wish I could reach that level.

Emag made a poor choice by critisizing franks flying ability BUT, he also showed a great level of maturity by coming back onto the thread and publicly apologizing for his own actions. I've looked through his gallery and he appears to be a very young kid with some pretty good skills of his own.

It would seem he may have learned a needed lesson.
