If a part is binding, the servo will develop extra force to overcome the binding. Once the arm has passed that spot, the servo will overshoot the target position because of the extra inertia it has built up. Now the system will have to correct in the other direction. If this continues in both directions it will cause an oscillation.

A fast servo and gyro are useless if the mechanics are not perfectly smooth.

All you need is one part of the driveline to not be smooth. If both thrust bearings are backwards it will double your problem. It has the same effect as running a slow servo.

Thanks! I had reversed thrust bearings too!

Dave, Payton and Company!
Thanks for the education on thrust bearings.
I got the "thrust" of what you were all saying and finally checked them in MY Falcon 46 SE.

My Falcon has since birth had a tail wag problem in HH. After fixing a lot of slop in the T/R by upgrading the pitch plate, I still had a little wag. Not much, but it was still there.

Although this is the first chopper that I built (need I say more).....I built it VERY carefully and was 100% SURE that I did not have them reversed.

Well, I DID have them both reversed! You really need a vernier caliper to tell the difference in the ID between the two! Now I am wondering what ELSE I screwed up!

The tail has NO wag now and I was able to reduce the 401 gyro gain from 100% to 80%.

Thanks VERY MUCH guys for the help. The Falcon is sweet flyer now and my flying skills are finally improving steadily now that it is flying so well.

Something Else to Check

As you guys know we should have address this problem to everyone. I learned a long time ago about thrust bearings, when I was building my Kyosho Concept SRT. Here's something else to check...The thrust bearings in the main-grips, if you have thrust bearings there. Also, the torque tube bearing, making sure it's free from binding and that it's off centered in the tube. That's two more of my two cents

Just a thought, could the gyro be touching something maybe your receiver?

I am just learning and made this mistake which caused the tail to wag.
