A properly set up geared tail is more efficient than a properly set up belt.
The geared will give you an extra half second or so of hang time in an auto.
The geared will also break teeth every time the tail gets into the grass and or dirt on landing and the belt is hard to break.

Since they both turn the tail at the same RPM there is no noticeable difference in flight. At least not to me at my skill level.

with a geared tail you can push it as hard as you want. but with a belt drive tail if you pirouette too hard the belt can skip a tooth or strip hence throwing off your flying and possibly causing a crash....

I'd go with a torque tube all the way.

IMHO, a properly set up belt or torque tube (for that matter) shouldn't strip a tooth from hard pirouetting maneuveurs. I've seen guys strip torque tube gears in flight, but perhaps that was a gear mesh issue or a left over issue from a previous crash.

Both methods must be setup properly. so the bottom line:

Torque tube designs are more efficient.
Torque tube designs in general are more expensive to replace/maintain.

Belt drives are more forgiving.
Belt drives are less expensive to maintain.

My recommendation......fly what you can afford to crash.

I have found the opposite to be true.
There is a well respected Heli manufacturer that I owned their top of the line heli, (NO, I will not name them) that I had complained to about stripping tail gears on a torque tube drive.
At a fun fly I had that manufacturer set up my tail with all new gears, they then followed me out to the flight line and I proceeded to tear the gears apart. There answer was that the drive was never intended for that hard of flying.
I have never been able to damage or "slip" a belt in the air.

As David and I said, there are pros and cons to both systems.
Run what is best for your personal situation.
What is best for me may not be best for you.
