This is the reason why the simulator should crash when you get too close to yourself... Not only that but it should simulate the ride to the hospital as well. I'm glad nothing major was hit. You could have just been another statistic. (Not that there were any to begin with) You're right though, good thing that it wasn't your 600... Geez

Well most sims usually have some kind of air amublance tucked away in there. I think Phoenix RC crashes if you fly it into your virtual self

This is a good reminder to all of us that these things are not toys and should be thought as just that. Not a toy.
This is a good pic to show any one just getting into the sport to know what these things can do. and they can infact kill you.
Yes as you said " lucky it was not my 600" it was only a 450 , If it was a 600 or 700 or other 50/90 size helis you very well have could have been killed.
Thanks for posting these as a constant reminder. Its to bad it has to take something like this to open peoples eyes to the true dangers.
Well glade you are ok and it healed good. Just be safe from now on and keep a good distance from you and the heli.

Sims

I think the simulators should go to a red screen and time out for 5 minutes when you crash into yourself. Force you to stop and think, "how can I avoid this in real life" instead of hitting reset and doing it over again without a second thought. Affter all, the sims are a tool to help us learn afterall.
Glad to see you are healing well, only proves we can't take anything for granted.
Did you find a cause of the sudden rapid piro? Wouldn't want it to happen again. I read once about the Futaba 401 having a hard-over failure where it goes hard to one side then won't return. Such a situation might explain your scenario.

ouch...

Thanks for posting as it takes brass balls given the generosity of comments sometimes given here.

On the lighter side...
you realize you can change your pseudo name to scarface now

"say hello to my little friend"...should be your new signature.

GMP Competitor 60

Got one of these about 13 years ago. Had been flying about 6 years at the time. Took it home and spent all that evening setting it up. Got the radio and everything setup, and everything seemed to be working just fine. Next day was picture perfect (go figure), so off I go to the local school grounds (nice big open area). started up very easily and sounded great. Let it warm up for a minute and started to run it up. Checked the tail response and it seemed good. I was using an old JR Circus 6 transmitter at the time. If you've seen it you'll know that it had servo reversing switches on the front of it, barely recessed. Anyway, everything seems ok, so I bring it up to about 1/2 throttle and it does not seem light on the skids... ??? So, I give it a little more throttle/collective. Nothing. So, I decide to throttle it down and check it out. I bring the stick down and WHAM... collective has gotten reversed. :| It takes off, at the same time, it's idling down... I lose control of it, and it comes right at me. It struck me in the foot with those huge wooden blades. I had tennis shoes on. I'll never forget how bad that hurt. I looked down, and the shoe was fine. Inside my shoe, my big toe was slashed wide open. Basically, it exploded from the force. But, believe it or not, the heli was not damaged (that I could see). I was determined to see that thing hover, and I did. I flipped the switch, checked it over, and hovered out a tank. Then I went to the hospital for stitches. Needless to say... I'm a little more careful in setup and checking things over before flying now.

That friggin hurt. Simple switch setting. Taught me a lesson.

wow, that is some serious carnage!!!! I figured it was a raptor 90 with razorblades on the rotors for all the damage it did.I figured a 450 could hurt pretty bad but this is insane stuff.

You have much to learn, Grasshopper! A 90 would have at least broken Trexdave's jaw if not taken his face off

There's a lot more physics going on in the helicopter system than we sometimes give it credit for...
