With a YS91SR with two tanks through it, there is a lot of bubbles. First I lowered the head speed on the governor and then I richened the high end and that seemed to do the trick. Later, thinking it was the needle setting, I raised the the head speed back up and the bubbles came back. I think I should put the head tank back on until I break in the motor.

I have a gallon and a half through mine and I am just starting to lean it out. The high end is ~1 turn out and the mid (long needle) is ~ 1.5 to 1.6 turns out. My gov is set to 15,200 on the engine- so about 1890 on the rotor head.

When it is breaking in and running rich, I don't really pay attention to the fuel tank, but I did notice how smooth it was the last time I was out.

Make sure what you are seeing isn't the high pressure being sprayed back into the top of the tank. That will always cause ripples.

I am not using a header tank, but am using a fuel magnet. I swear by the fuel magnets.

the SR's seem to have more pressure than my old YS ST, i too see ripples in the hover, but the engine is running fine and it has loads of power,

I am running 1550 in the hover, 1890 in idle up
i am using a header tank, the engine is running very sweet,i am still breaking it in, i have flown 4 gallons through it now.

And it is one of the nicest machines i have flown.

I always use a header tank because I like it, never tried to fly without it. This way you never have to worry about the bubbles etc and the engine has constant flow of fuel.

But a lot of people fly without header tank (extra weight I think) and I cant give really an opinion about it. Will show you my header tank setup for you info:

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Mattjen, I use the YS91SR as well and the break in i did with more o less 1 gallon of cool power and last weekend I have flown it at maximum in the Heli 3DX Spain. Didnt had any problems with engine and its running really smoothly with lots of power!

have my needles setup like blitz setup guide at the moment running at 1950 rpm head speed 16 clicks short needle and 1,75 turn on long needle.

Is it really necessary to fly 4 gallons to do break in of the YS engines?

The initial settings were like the manual with the YS, 1.75 on the Hover and 1.25 on the High. I increased the High about 4 clicks, which should have made it really sloppy and that is when the bubbling stopped, until I increased the head speed back to 1850. I think I'll put the header tank back on and put the high end needle back to the starting position. The YS doesn't seem to like air in the fuel as much as maybe an OS does.

As far as breaking the motor in, I would think a gallon or two would be sufficient. Never had a 90 size motor before, but that amount of fuel seemed to be enough for an OS50 Hyper.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		You are 100% correct, the YS is absolutely intolerant of air in the fuel line. If you are using the stock clunk and the rich engine is causing some stirring in the tank, you could be getting air in the line for certain.

This would only get worse as you try to combat it by chasing the needles. If you have any problems tuning a YS, 99% of the time it is a fuel or air leak.

Let us know if it gets better with the header tank.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		No header on mine but I am using a fuel magnet (fits perfectly in the stock tank hole) and it is working great with the YS. I had two flights over the weekend where the tank got completely drained and I did not notice any differene in the way the motor ran the whole time. This is the first time I have used a fuel magnet and I must say that I am impressed!!

I have heard that systems that use muffler pressure wear the foam out quicker than a closed sysem like the YS or OMI Clined setups but I do not have any experence with that myself... On the Avro I was getting some leaning out issues with the heli once the tank got down to about 1/4 tank, I do not like header tanks so I put the fuel magnet in there to see what it would do and so far I am very happy.

My Posts This: Topic  Forum		Ditto on what Kirk said. One thing to watch out for is that it does soak up every last drop. I went up for "one more round" before doing autos for the remainder of the tank and found myself autoing out of a piro flip because she was bone dry!

Probably not necessary, as you rightly said after a gallon it is probably settled in, but i like run at least 4 gallons through it before i really start to lean it out to its optimum performance.

I dont do hard flying, i am NOT a 3D, i may do some hovering inverted but it is not a hard punch of the pitch- as my videos show.
