Hey Leif, you should be on the payroll!

Hey, I'm having fun here. This is easier than putting people's heads on other people's bodies.

Here's the latest. I've rotated it so the noseline is now parallel with the boom. This results in the slight downward slope of the top line and top of the windscreen. The belly has been pulled down just a bit. I could pull it a bit more, but to get further down I think it would be better to pull the noseline down instead. Otherwise the belly gets too big. I can't angle the top line any further back without exposing the frame.

Here it is, plus the transparency version.

And here it is compared to the original.

Big improvement over the original.

But if you don't mind my saying, the canopy looks a bit too "big" for the mechanics if you know what I mean. The design is better, but the thing looks a bit like a tadpole if you see what I'm getting at.

I know what you mean, but without messing with the frame I can't do much more. The frame is too tall to do much more. I prefer smaller, sleeker canopies myself, but with the current dimensions of the frame I can't do much better without stretching the canopy even further forwards.

There is quite a bit that could be done with variations in windscreen layout, plus the back part of the canopy could be modified a bit depending on how much of the frame you want to cover.

Anyway, it was just a bit of playing around. I'm not affiliated with Hirobo besides flying their helis.

Ok jeez Leif i think you are very very close. That looks so much better.
I'd like to see the top of the curve bought back a little further and then a drop down towards the back of the canopy like in the aurora. See the first page of this topic. Like drop the back down to about half way down the gyro sensor. The back is too high and i think doing this would give it the effect of "thinning" the canopy somewhat. Worth a look.

great job

Look at the transparency view:

In order to drop the back of the top line, I'll expose the frame at the upper bearing blocks. Is this OK? I can certainly raise the top higher and then drop it back. In fact, this could allow me to pull the canopy back a bit and shorten the rear section. I still think that keeping the nose low to minimize the "belly half" is a good idea. Otherwise it looks too much like a fish.

What I would really like is to lower the top of the frame a bit, but that would require more details of the mechanical design than just a few CAD renderings.

I think Leif & Toolman have the right ideas on the canopy design.
I would make it narrower and longer like the EVO 90 canopy,
the current design looks too much like an EVO 50 canopy
short & fat!!!

I like the EVO 50 EX canopy and the Quark canopy the best IMHO.

I'd like to see removable bearing blocks on the starter shaft. The pic's make it look like they are molded into the frame? You shouldn't have to split the frames to replace bearings

The canopy can be tweaked any which way, thats no big deal for them. The real question is WHATS THE WEIGHT AND PRICE????? This is the key to making a performer or a dud. The heli looks awesome , and simple, but if the weight is 11.5 pounds, how will it pan out.Or what if the heli is light, but 1400$$US dollars.
One thing I would of done is chopped the battery tray off and shaved some weight off the tail. That octagon boom may be strong but lets face it, they all crumble in a crash . Going with a rounded boom would definetly lighten her up... Just my 2 cents. Leif I dig the canopy mod!!!!

Yes, It looks a lot better,

Could you put the boom black, I think it would improve the overall look.

The only area (in my mind) that needs improvement is the tank and sub-frames arrangement. The tank is sticking out too much and the details on the sub-frames distract from the overall lines of the machine.

Just a quick photoshop of the Aurora canopy in place. May have to be creative in space up front for electronics. Name suggestion is Sigyn in keeping with the Theme. She was the wife of Loki and her name means victory. Pronunciation: (seg'in, -yn, sē'gin, -gyn),

Looks are important but pages of posts on looks alone?

The tank is most likely placed there for CG reasons. Some stuff ends up the way it is for mechanical reasons.

Honk ... before it becomes offensive.

I always liked the tank placement, makes it real easy to see the fuel level. Looks are important, we want Hirobo's new machine to be a hit for them and us, and looks sells quite a bit on its own to many people. Case in point as mentioned earlier, the Hummer, you couldn't pay me to own that based on looks alone! Mechanics are important too, but they are hidden for the most part.

Version 6

The nose is now lower and in line with the battery tray. I added a bit more downward slant to the top lines. Also, this version has the canopy extending behind the muffler.

Shown with a black tail and braces, and also all-black. I also converted the tank frame to carbon for more color consistency in these versions.
