If you want to keep a large filtered setup, you can look at picking up the snorkel and filter setup from the Audacity Pantera. It would require a hole like you made (although smaller), and the snorkel tube is airfoil shaped. In testing it's been fine with 90 sized engines and doesn't block much airflow. Just an idea, I wouldn't think of running it the way you have it, it nearly completely blocks teh flow of air to the head.

On plumbing fuel tanks with a header. Hook up the main tank to the header, then the header to the engine.

Nick is right..... if you run the setup "as is" , you'll most likely ruin that motor in short order...... not only is the filter setup blocking air flow, but whoever hacked up the bottom part of the shroud certainly didn't consider the consequences......

Honestly, if it were my machine, I would ditch the filter idea, buy a new shroud that PROPERLY fits around the head for adequate cooling and be done with it.....

Regarding the filter, it has already been pointed out that MOST don't use them and have NOT been using them for a long , long time without any issues.....

Thanks Eury

ok, i must tell that after reading ur posts guys, that definitivly make sense, BUT i think everyone may have overlooked what really happend in there, ill explain..

ok, lets say my filter block 50% of the fan shroud, u should not forget that the air desity is really low, and the air can be compressed really well and take any shapes. that mean even if 50% of the shroud is blocked, there are probly much more than 50% of the air that will reach the head.(actualy the air will compress and accellerate, sending the air at an highter speed on the head)

and now here is the thing that mb u guys have overlooked, with an open carb ventury setup(inside the shroud), most of the air the fan will throw will end up IN the engine
big engine like that running 80% throttle, that eat alot of air

in the end that may be really similar in cooling effect, of course thats just theoric stuff im just a noob remember
anyways.. i will try that setup someday and we will see.

and i would also like to add that the previous owner said it had mb 20-25 run on the heli, well.. for 20 run ive been really impressed by all the junk i found in the shroud... i would definitivly not even think about running these engine w/o ATLEAST a tube to take fresh air from outside the shroud, but inside.. ouff.. thats call to ruin an engine in a short time.. IMO

what temp do u guys keep ur engines? i keep my nitro motors around 200-240f, but thats on my trucks and cars

I would think that 200 to 240 is a good temp on your motor....if you are checking it at the head. Most folks just use the finger on the backplate method. If you can leave your finger on the backplate for a few seconds you are in the ballpark. I usually just tune by sound and percieved power. When I tried to do temps, I just worried all of the time about it.
I also believe in filters on the engines because of the crud that I see in the shroud. I use a filter that doesn't stick up very far off the top of the carb and gives room for airflow. What you stated about the engine eating a lot of air makes sense, but then again, I'm no expert at that kind of stuff myself. Just experiment and see what you end up with. That's part of the hobby too.

240 in my opinion is to high even 220 is high, i keep my motors in the 200 range, but i fly pretty hard so i like to run them a hair richer. I was popping pistons when i was running even in the 220-230 range, and the power difference between 200 and 220 was not noticeable.

Hope that helps

Hi, the Q60 look like a really nice heli, but also seem to be a old design. i have 0 experience with these heli so i cant help u much there and even less with gasser convertion.

and to tell you the truth, im not a big fan of the new quick helis design, bat series etc.. my fav model is the Dominator, and i really wonder why they dont sell it anymore.. i mean.. it not promoted anymore on the main site, u have to dig trough the search function to find it

http://www.ewtech.com/Merchant2/mer...uct_Code=QKC69S

i will surely convert my Q60 into a Dominator eventualy, slowly but surely

Great sense of humor.

Jimbo we need your sense of humor on this forum.

Just back from the Jamboree & I must say it was ONE fantastic event & the weather was the best. The flying performances are just getting better & better...

After seeing this event grow in the past 17 years to where it has evolved from the HELIBOY to current market machines it sure has been a great flight. I can't wait go to work in the morning.

It was great meeting so many old friends & realize as well as placing faces with PM friends...It was really a great weekend & I made both ways without whacking my trailer & SUV. LOL

I was so pleased to see so many women flyers VISIT OUR BOOTH. I just hope they fly better then they drive.

Dark,

If you flew the V2 Bat series you would change your mind... Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of the old Dominator style frames also, but there are several improvements in the V2 that I would like to mention from my experience with both.

The V2 has an additional bearing on the clutch bell that keeps the drive train nice and true and spreads the load out nicely. It's a great rigid system that was a needed improvement.

Also, the forward facing engine and rear fuel tank put most of the weight at the CG of the heli and you don't see any CG changes throughout an entire flight. You can also see the fuel level which is an added bonus.

The tail boom has a lower mounting in the frame and is more in line with the drive mechanics and this IMHO gives it a better piroette characteristic.

So, just look at the V2 as a nice upgrade to an already solid heli.

yea, ive no doubt these bat helis have a better mecanical design
and i figured out about the CG it would stay more even through out the whole flight, mb i need/will mod my q60 for foward facing engine and rear tank setup

to tell ya the truth ive already tyed figure a way to do that when i rebuilded the heli.. lol
posible.. mb, but thats not going to be a ez mod
