paint transfer process

darrens, What like a dry transfer?,
I would struggle to print letters that size, so that they were still readable,
What does a paint job to that level of sophistication cost?
Interested as I do all my own paintwork

What would be the best process to get this side markings on the model?

D-HMFR will be my finished product.

side markings

sean911sc, Speak to a Callie, seems to have a very good reputation in the USA
She should be able to produce Vinyl lettering or vinyl mask's if you want to paint your decals and lettering
Your heli will not look finished without decals
Good luck

darrens, Not wanting to labour the point
Just finished some inside warning lables for heliraptor, the smallest letter is, just over 0.5mm, it can not be read easily with the naked eye
My question, where is there any lettering that is 2mm high on the full size, you are scalling
See you at the weekend, dont forget the disk

Hi Peter,

I wont forget the disk for the weekend.

I should be more specific on lettering sizes for you. I have given a host of reference images to my painter and asked him to replicate all the lettering, badges etc which he can using the paint transfer process. He can do this down to 0.5mm. That may mean he does not need to produce letters that small, but that is what he is capable of doing it down to. Although some of the dashboard labelling may be that small, I will wait and see.
I'm sure when finished and released to the world, it will even be up to your close scrutiny!

re vinyl lettering/mask.
If you use Vinyl letters, you will have a ridge in the laquer where the letter begins (just like with water slides) and if you use the mask, you will have a step where the paint begins. You can almost remove this "step" by rubbing down as close as you dare before laquering.

Sean - I love the duct tape used on the side D-HMFR, are you going to incorporate that into scale detail ?

0.5mm in height.

darrens, That is interesting, I am working on a dash at the moment, My printer will not print white, ( it is a relic from the past uses thermal resin tape),
I could do with a process that I could reproduce the lettering, over the switches and push buttons

THe ridges, are caused by the amount of paint you apply, if you are going to laqure then very thin paint applied with an airbrush, is ideal then this edge is buried with the laquer

I thought it was just a fly-in, but I'm open to doing my first ever comp.

So how does it work and what is involved? Is it just static or do you have to fly specific paterns etc.......I have never been to a scale comp before

LHC meet

darrens, Like me, last year, was my first comp at this level, got a 4th in the static, won by Lee(HELIRAPTOR)and a second overall, behind Dennis S, hoping to do better this year, even cancelled the trip to German Jet show, because the dates conflicted
Two cups, one static, the other is for static and flying
Paper work issued on the day by Sean Brown (organiser, and chief Judge)
Lee we had better watch out

tris_heli - Its funny. The image I posted is fairly new as all the other images on the web show D-HMFR without in FLIR/external options. Now that I look at, a little black tape would do.

Peter Rob - Yes, I agree. I need every side marking. Do you have contact information for Callie - wait - let me search first.
