Hey Mark, I think it would be a good idea to put a sold check box for sellers on their posts so when you search for somthing being sold you don't get alot of stuff that has already been sold. just on the top when you view clasifieds there is at least three or four that are already sold. It may not be worth the effort of putting it in but it is just a thought.

The creator of the original post should do this by closing the thread.

I still think it would be a nice option. I try to remember to close my ads, but I forget at times as I like to leave them open until the buyer gets his item.

I also think it's the seller's responsibility....... If you don't remember to go back to mark it "closed" , then you're not going to remember to go back to click a "sold" radio box either.....

Here's what I did on my last classified..... went back to the FIRST post to edit the title by inserting >>>SOLD<<< and then by closing the thread.......

Also, I don't believe the seller should delete the title or content of their classified adds..... That is useful information that someone can "search" on to get an idea what items are being sold for..... Just an opinion.....

At one point , Mark was considering making a classified post "non-deletable" by the originator........ Not sure if that ever took place....

I do mark my items sold when I sell them. So, I think for me, I could remember to click the sold radio box. Like I said earlier, I leave the ad open until the buyer receives his stuff. Once I know he has it, then I close it.

even if you do close it it is still there and somtimes I will read the ad and try to post before I realize it is closed, it would be better if you could not even see it.

Deleting the ad (or giving the ability to do so) would be the worst disservice Mark could do for the forum members in many ways......

As stated before, if the topic (any topic) is "greyed out", then you know it's "closed". In the case of a classified, either the member sold the item or changed his mind and the item is no longer for sale....

It would be great if ads were for a set period of time, say 7 days, then they would auto delete. You could give the ad poster the option to renew the ad for another 7 days if the item has not sold. Of course, the OP could also "check" that the item has sold which would trigger an auto delete at the end of the day, otherwise it would auto delete at the end of the 7 days anyway.

I had this set up on a Cessna site I hosted and it worked great. It kept the classifieds cleaned up and small. It was fully automated and I did not have to do anything.
