Hi,

I have the Beam on my short list for my latest Heli.
But before committing, I would like to know how is the situation for parts availability in the US ? Readily available?

Also, the build and parts quality looks really good on the Beam site and in magazine reviews I have seen. Is it this good in reality?

Thanks in advance.

www.advantagehobby.com has all of the parts you would ever need. I've ordered from them a few times and have always gotten great service.

Thanks for the replies,

I am really tempted to go with the Beam, my reservation is just the popularity of the beam Vs others such as the TREX 450, Mini Titan etc which are all tried and tested. The popularity of these Heli's means that if there is an intrinsic problem with the heli, aftermarket manufacturers will be all over it, I am not so sure this woud be true with a "niche" heli like the Beam.

You will not regret to go with Beam. The parts are tuff and usually I only need to change fly bar, main shaft and spindle. Sometime, but very seldom.... I change the boom and blade.

Quality is very high, I've found not problem at all with the stock kit... So for the moment (?), no need for upgrade parts anyway. I would not be suprised at all if in a short while, those new generation of 450 heli takes a fair share of the trex market...

Advantagehobby has had all the parts required in stock, shipped the super fast to me. Len offers great service.

Which parts are interchangable with the Trex 450, as my local hobby shop fully stocks Trex 450 parts?

Advantage hobby is a good store and they have tons of parts, even the new painted canopy.

- Canopy are interchangeable, but beam ones look so much better
- Blades are interchangeable
- Skids
- tail boom maybe...
- Servo, motor, esc, batteries, gyro

There are probably others, but it is not a clone of a trex, it's a different machine, with different layout and better layout. The tail belt is the most evident upgrade... If only I could easily fit a beam tail to every trex on earth

ahh. Thanks Frebou.

Only thing I didn't like about the Beam is the feathering shaft they use. Reminds me of the junk MX400 feathering shafts. I wonder though if they are more durable than the Align V2 ones.

Every real crash I've had (not just side tipping or "hard" landing), I've bent them.

But the systems work super nice and is totaly stiff in flight. So I simply buy a pack of the for a couple of $ and I'm set for a whole lot of crash. takes no time to replace...

Don't know if they act as a week link but never bent or broke too many thing on this heli... not even a boom.

Personnally see that as a positive. I'd rather have the spindle bend then ruin parts on the head or notch the bearings. Never heard of the trex V1 spindle bending in flight or anything. Have to pull the spindle out of my V2 every crash to check if it's straight anyways.

That's just my opinion, I haven't flown the beam yet but my kit is in the mail. Can't wait!

See !, this is what confuses me.
I get a lot of replies that the Beam is a great heli, great quality etc etc, and now a bunch of posts about fitting Trex parts on it. If the Trex is so great and to get any heli up to the best standard you need Trex parts, why not just go buy a Trex in the first place?.

It's not like the Beam is really cheap so a few "upgrades" are expected. Or is Brovic777 just asking because the LHS has them in stock which I can understand because it is always nice to touchy feely the bits prior to purchase, not to mention faster.

Trust me. T-Rex parts quality is not as good as Beam parts.

I just was curious for convenience on local hobby shop. Why wait 5 days to get my parts here in California from Advantage Hobby, when I can pick up a main shaft, or skids down the street at Hobby People for the Beam.

I like the Heli. To me the Trex 450 is old skool now.

Brovic777,
Thanks, did you know about the LHS stocking Trex parts prior to getting the Beam, I am guessing you did looking at your fleet, but if not, would you have still gone for the Beam knowing upfront you would need to use internet for parts?

Helibird,
I see you already have my second choice heli, the Trex 450 SE, so what made you go for the Beam?

At this point without actually seeing the heli yet it's hard to answer that, right now I'd say I want something new. There are a few design things that I like about the Beam over the trex. Once I get my beam and get it together and flying I'll be able to answer a little better.

As far as parts I'm ordering online for my trex most of the time anyway so as long as they are available from a large online retailer like advantage I don't see local part support as an issue. Advantage also has free shipping over $50 bucks which is hard to beat!

Hope to have it flying early next week so it won't be long. Sure looks like a great heli though. Check out the build threads on HF.
