You dont need the so called puff proof packs, once you have got rid of those horrid stock blades and got an 11T pinion or evan a 10T (innov8tivedesigns.com) you will be fine. I have been using Li-po's for years and only had 2 packs puff slightly on one cell due to crash damage. Puff proof packs are only puff proof to slight overdischarging, what you are probably doing with that setup is overdischarging but at a very high amp draw.

I have been having really good luck with airthunder packs. They are a little heavy but damn can they take a beating!

I put on 325mm Carbon blades I bought off of someone who had a mini-titan, but they are skinny at the root and needed shimming. The blades are so quiet compared to woodies and a noticable difference in that there is less pitch up in FF. I'm back running with the stock motor and esc, I ran it till the power just started to drop (TP 2070 25C)and got close to ten minutes. The temps are way down, I mean, I would land pop canopy and feel the motor, batery, and ESC all would be mildly warm to the touch. Unlike before with the Turnigy motor, where the batteries were so hot they puffed.

This motor is not for me now, I really felt that with my layback flying, I lose more then I gain. Yes the thing is a rocket, but at the cost of almost half my flying time. I did a few punch-out's and feel that the stock setup is more then adequate for my flying skills now. My fly modes are:

PITCH:
Normal= -3, -1.5, 0, +5, +10
idle1= -10, -5, 0, +5, +10
idle2= -10, -5, 0, +5, +10

THROTTLE:
Normal= 0%, 65%, 85%, 90%, 95%
idle1= 95%, 90%, 85%, 90%, 95%
idle2= 100%, 95%, 90%, 95%, 100%

This is really what you have to do,consider what YOUR flying style needs and find a set up thats right.I see guys just going for more headspeed, more head speed, and more headspeed.But how much do you REALLY need.if you are not doing high amp draw stuff,there is really no need to be insane with your set up.otherwise you are literaly wasting MAH.And,I'd be willing to bet money that most guys would be able to do ANYTHING they can do with high headspeed,with a lower headspeed,if they concentrated on collective management and technique.Instead they are using an unnecessary headspeed to compensate for lack of precision.I've seen a few of the pros fly(in person) their 450's and asked lots of questions and I dont think any of them are running 3000+ headspeed(maybe close but not 3200 and up like some set ups).Plus lower head speed gives longer flight time(you can learn faster if you fly longer)....now I'm not saying ANYBODY in particular is doing this and if your skills need it THATS WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT...but thats the question...do your skills TODAY require it?

this is what I'm doing now,trying to find a good balance between flight time and performance,as I dont need all out performance(yet but I'm working on it )and I just dont see having 4 min flight times if I can't make use of the power

I toasted my main gear last weekend, running Turnigy on 11T.
was on 2nd pack and on normal mode doing some punch to check gyro when sudenly a tail strike and the sound of free motor...land not that hard but couldn't save the landing gear.

Are you guys running 11T with soft start on speed controller?
I think mine is at standart - could that be the reason the main gear give up?

btw this motor is a monster!

soft start is a must with the power on a electric motor or you will need alot of main gears
also when you go into idle up1 make sure you are at the same power level or the sudden power input will strip the main gear

Can I use the Turnigy E500 with Castle Creation ESC 35amp, external BEC and 11t pinion? My target speed under 2900-3000rpm with AirThunders 25c 2200 and 325 blades. I'm just afraid 35amp is not enough because it can easily get up to 50amps. I like to pitch pump it and full pitch fast forward. What do you think?

Almazick, all I can say about your ESC question is that I flew this motor with 11T using a 45amp Scorpion and 3S 2250mahs. The motor and ESC got so hot you could barely stand to touch them! The battery got hot as well, but not much more than normal.

How many flights do you have on your Turnigy E500 motor without any issues (bearings, stop working, etc)?

No! The [quote]E500 produces higher peaks on 11T than the CC35 can handle!

I would go with the CC45 on 10T or max. 11T!

I have more than 100 flights with the E500, JAZZ 40 and 10T pinion without any problem, head speed is ~2700 and the power works with nearly no rpm break down under hard pitch imput, I like that setup very much!

4s setup

could anyone comment about which setup would be ideal for a 4s setup on the mini-titan with CF blades for hard 3D?

1. this motor + 60Amp Pentium ESC = both at 117 grams and $68
-- OR --
2. jgf450th + 40Amp Pentium ESC = both at 88 grams and $96

the jgf450th motor is very popular for 4s setups (according to justgofly's website). it's hard to believe that eric_b had numerous 3d flights with this motor and 13T on his MT with just a 40Amp TT ESC without any problems. this motor seems very impressive based on eric_b's video and comments that this motor outperforms jgf500 and is comparable to the scorpions. but do u guys think that it's worth the extra ~30g weight penalty for a beefier ESC that this motor requires? i don't know if this extra weight would be noticeable or affect performance/battery-time on the MT, which is claimed by many to be heavier than t-rex.

I just put the "Gold" motor in my Mini Titan and the holes line up now. Guess they've been listening to the feedback . I'm running it with the Turnigy 60A ESC and using the 13T pinion. I did some initial hovering with pitch pumps and it's peaking at 373 watts/41 amps.

I had a hard time getting the Eagletree to fit under the canopy so I don't know have any full flight data yet.

I wished I had ran across this thread before Sunday. I tried out my HK450 for the first time. Just hovering about 2 minutes each flight and puffed 2 packs. I didnt take myu time and do research on what is was putting together Here are my mistakes

#1- Im still learning FF so this motor is not really for me, but I have it so I would like to make it work

#2 Way too small too cheap ESC- I tried the Hobbyking SS-30ESC ( piece of crap) its rated at 25-30 amps and was sitting under the packs. So as it got red hot that heat went to the packs.

#3- Pinion was wrong. I need a 10 or 11T I want to keep headspeed at 2800 or so

So , what to do- buy a bigger , better ESC of course and get a smaller pinion.

I WILL TRADE THIS MOTOR FOR A STOCK ALIGN MOTOR IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED

I know I'm continuing the resurrection of this thread but I'm using the E500 motor with a Sentry 40A ESC and Turnigy 1800 mAh 30C pack. My battery stays very much cool, the ESC gets warm'ish, and the motor stays very cool. This all setup on a 12T pinion in a Beam E4. Very stable, plenty of power so far. I'm not a 3D guy though, but I do love to punch the collective back and forth!

Timing is set to medium.

I need one of those to fly in my office. Tried to fly my .90 in there but man is my wife pissed now!
