This is a picture of an injury I sustained whilst setting up my Trex 500. The purpose of posting this is just to re iterate what has been said a 1000 times over - Helis are not toys, they are dangerous and need to be handled very carefully. This was an accident, caused not by a mechanical failure, but by human error. I feel lucky to have escaped so lightly.

I am embarrassed to even say what happened, it was such a fundamental STUPID mistake. This was my very FIRST start on the heli, having never flown one before, and what an experience. In a nutshell, in all my wisdom, I switched the Tx off BEFORE disconnecting the battery to the heli - game over. So the heli spooled up on its own, I swithched the Tx on again - no response, and by now the heli was really picking up speed - in my garage. So my mate told me to give him the Tx whilst I held the tail down - which I did, but not tight enough - and suddenly the engine went up a notch, veered to the left and the rest as they say is history.

His failsafe might've not been set either.

Can never be too careful. Just last week a kid started his heli at 1/2 throttle. No one seemed to care. I left. This is no toy to be taken lighty. People have guns as a hobby and take them serious.

Injury

Ok lets take a step back here and re-evaluate what happened. Turning off the transmitter before disconnecting the battery on the heli was an error yes, but to say thats what caused your injury is downright wrong. The injury you sustained was not because of human error but rather lack of better judgement on your part when you decided that it was more important to save the heli from damage by grabbing onto the boom of a helicopter that was probably going to reach a head speed of 2300RPMs or more and try to prevent it from lifting off the ground. It would have been better to just throw something at it and knock it over or run out of the garage completely. Just MHO. I am glad however that you were not hurt alot worse, that arm of yours could have been your jugular vain in your neck.

A little CA right there at the field should have fixed that right up!
JK!!

Actually a guy here had a similar accident, A plane cut open his fat belly, he was leaning over his plane right after he started it, it was the funfly and he didn't want to leave, so he tried some CA glue to hold the cut closed, but he used too much, then it wouldn't dry.
Sooo yup, you guessed it, he then used accelerator on it!
Needless to say the pain made him go to the hospital.

I'm allways right 97% of the time..............So who cares about the other 4%??

Now my belly hurts,

Not to make light of a serious situation, but now my belly hurts from trying to stifle a laugh too hard. It's always bad when you know you shouldn't be laughing but can't help yourself.
PS That original injury looks like a vagina, did it bleed for a full week?
