My Posts This: Topic Forum | I think you'l be OK hovering a bit and learning to handle the VE at that speed. I will caution that as your battery begins to drain and the headspeed drops you will get dangerously close to the infamous VE wobble. You don't hear much about this anymore with all the mods and higher headspeeds. At approximately 1300 to 1350 rpm headspeed the VE begins to wobble and oscillate. This will increase until it becomes uncontrollable and you will crash. If you see tha wobble start, LAND immediately. It seems to be an internal resonance thing. About the stretch, I searched and the original post is gone. There's still abunch there if you search this forum under stretch. I wouldn't suggest it with a stock head (The quick head is a direct drop in), but basically you get a JR Venture tailboom and cut it to 22 1/8 inch. The diameter is the same, and be sure to cut the correct end (Must leave the end to match the tail mount). Get an ECO 16 belt and 470 blades (MS blades require that spacers be made for the grips to fit. You must also extend the tail control rod. I used a carbon rod. The stretch will make your VE more stable in a hover (Larger disc) and at the same time more responsive. Not sure how that's possible, but it does. Be careful in selecting those Hacker motors. I don't know what the KV rating is on them. The outrunners have a lower KV and you won't have enough hreadspeed with the VEs two stage gear set-up. The C40 8l is still available from FXAero I believe. It seems odd that a lot of manufacturers are now rushing to get a ship quite close to the VE and VE stretch size. With the cost of a new head and motor and Lipos and stretch for the VE you might want to fly as is and get some experience then decide which way to go. I love my VE, but be aware that one of the reasons I stayed with the older design was how much I had invested in it. Once you plunk down $ 170.00 or so for the Hacker, and $ 200.00 for the Lipos there isn't much else you can do with them other than the VE (just an observation. Sorry this is so long, I don't post all that often. Keep us informed on your progress. |
