Blitz Helicopters Avro 90 > What is the purpose of belt and torque driven in Avro?

Hi guys:

I am about to order one for myself. As such I would like to ask the guys who had got the Avro about this set up? Is this to help the tail set up better?

Saw a lot of review about tis heli..seems to be a fantastic heli to fly.

Any comments to share? Is the building part tedious like MA or simple as N9?

Cheers..

My take

From my experence the belt driven motor design is really good for having a smooth machine. The smoothest helis I have ever been around are the Robbie Nova's and Futura's which were belt driven. On a belt drive like this you do not need to have a start shaft that goes all the way thru the machine to support the pinion gear. This simplifys the clutch area of the machines and limits the vibes from the motor (which is spinning and vibrating more than anything else on the heli). If you watch some closeups of Dave Fishers Avro while it is hovering the fuel looks like its in a glass sitting on the counter... I belive that some of this has to do with the belt driven drive train on the heli...

Building is an absolute pleasure, everything fits where it should and Neal is on hand if you have any questions. They are one of the most helpfull companies I have had the pleasure to deal with for any product not just in the heli world. I can recommend getting the tail piece and rear mounts, it looks great and improves tail in visibility.

The drive train is silky smooth.

Also

From what i hear the reason for belt driven is it is quiter, and when and if it goes in you wont strip gears, there is also no meshing, with belt driven,

as others have said, it makes for a much quiter machine,

A guy in our club has one, very smooth flying machine, one thing he kept on about was the service was brilliant, havent got the funds on hand yet to buy one, but it certainly does look very nice.

I am halfway through stripping/checking and rebuilding mine, and it is very easy to work on, and everything fits absolutely spot on. The quality of parts is 1st class

I know that the BLITZ team are very passionate about their product, and this shows in the level of service you get

Thanks guys for all the response. I think tis is indeed a good heli.

Anymore comments from the owner? How about maintenance?

Should I wait for the Trex 700?

Hi all Avro owners..

Is this heli as difficult to service after a crash like the Aurora that you need to take apart the frame to even change the main gear?

Any idea?

The frames do not require dis assembly. The Avro design allows access side service plates to be removed without frame separation. All gears can be removed in a matter of minutes for servicing and or replacement.
The tail assembly and torque tube drive components are also easily serviceable.

Thanks for the confirmation. As I saw the video build from Finless on the Aurora, I find that this is a very hard heli to maintain. As all heli flyers know: We will all crash one day..So need to prepare for contingency.

Any idea what is or could be the possible for the Avro till date? I got no doubts that this is a very good heli..

I had two complaints with mine (which are only minor):

Weight was one. If they could figure out a way to get the weight down by about 1 to 1.5 pounds they would have the nicest 90 size heli out. Keep in mind the avro was not designed for smackdown 3D but it will 3D just fine. Its just a little bit heavy...

2nd issue I had was that the design on the bottom bearing block (below the main gear) can move under harsh pitch changes. The bolts for this bearing block are in line with the mainshaft and they will move if you do no tighten them propeley causing you to eat up the crown gear. When you assemble this bearing block make sure you follow the manual to the letter!! Locktite the auto hub to the bearing in the gear block so that way when you make adjustments the whole bearing block along with the auto hub are moving. You could add a split coller to the top and bottom of the top bearing block for added support but this will add more weight...

I had a great experence with mine and loved the build. Support from the company is great and the heli flys nice. If I had unlimited heli funds I would get another

I can only point out that the Avro was designed as a precision flying machine for which it is best intended for FAI and F3C flying. Although it will perform 3D style maneuvers well it is not considered for intense "hard core" 3D performance. Having built and flown both the Avro and Synergy N9 models the Avro provides the builder with a more satisfying experience in assembly of high end components and superior machining. I have stated before that the outstanding feature of the Avro is the actual building process. The packaging alone exudes quality and exceeds any other I have seen. Both machines are outstanding performers in their intended use.

It will be a fully focussed 3D machine, which will be lighter and stronger as many customers have fed back..

TM

I was mis informed, and given incorrect info, i spoke to one of their sponsored pilots today and they are not bringing out a dedicated 3D machine in the near future, like most things in this hobby you hear rumours, they get repeated and distorted..

There was talk about it, but there is nothing in the pipeline for the immediate future.
Apologies to anyone who has been confused or put off from buying one now,and to Neil at Blitz..

I was told wrongly...
