the small aeroplane exhausts have been used
morley did produce a dustbin style exhaust for them but the chances of finding one is slim
i made one from a steel tube, similar to the morley unit except i baffled mine
use steel or ali if you make an exhaust , don't use copper as it will be too loud

Silencer

Cliff,

I have spoken to Jim this morning and he has some second hand exhausts that may help you.

Can you tell me what engine it's for as they were different exhausts for different engines.

Hi Tish
the original engine I have is a Thunder Tiger 45 "ABC" bought at the same time as I bought the kit in early 80s. I will be fitting this if it proves to run reliably.

Otherwise I will probably get a new TT 50 as recommended earlier.

Hi "Payne" The bit I would be interested to see would be the
manifold. I suspect I could make the other bits ok.

No doubt with some patience and a drill n file I could make something up. Though I could not weld ally.

the home made one is made from steel tube and steel flat plate

you drill the flat plate to the hole spacing of the engine and then tap the hole for the retaing bolts
mark out and remove the area for the gasses to pass through
get a tube and slightly flatten the end and weld to the plate
with a larger tube for the main chamber drill out to fit the manifold tube to go inside, cut off the manifold tube at an angle so the gasses can pass and weld the two tubes together, now make up two baffle plate and weld them inside the main chamber, drill and tap a hole for the exhaust pressure nipple to fit into,
make up a smaller tube for the outlet and fit as per the manifold tube, blank the ends off, and i painted it black to tidy it up a bit

with this baffled steel exhaust it is not much heavier than the original ally one but is quite a bit quieter

the picture above is the best one i could take without removing the exhaust

Hi
have any of you retained the single server for colective and throttle, or all converted to seperate servos so you can use the xmitter throttle curves?

Servo's

Cliff,

mine has the seperate servo's, which is how Jim left it.

I personally feel that this is a much better solution

the three glow powered ones i have all have the seperate servo's
if you don't have a mounting for one then get some ali angle (or fold a 90* bend in some flat ali)and extend the pitch servo holder with the ali, screw it down with the pitch servo and screw the throttle servo onto the ali bracket

the electric one doesn't need the throttle servo

Hi again,
can anyone suggest a suitable cheapish gyro for the Morley? Guess it does not need a hightech jobby capable of 3d antics!!

I still have the original Morley one - you can hear it spin up the giro inside . Not sure if it still works til I get a new receiver to play with. But suspect a new piezo one will work better.

Will there be things for sale at the MK flyin? I've never been to one but will buy some bits if here are..Fuel tank, blades, gyro, maybe servos.

Thanks again

Bit's

Cliff,

not sure if people will be there selling things, but I have suggested to Jim that he brings some bits in a box to sell.

On the giro I was going to use a CSM 200, can't work out where to put it yet?

quite a few of the big shops have donated stuff for the raffle, so that should be good.

See you all on Saturday.

LHC do a HH gyro similar to the futaba GY401 it costs about £50

I hope you have better luck with the CSM200 than I had in my shuttle the tail was never smooth and just gerked on every movement
for a piezo gyro the CSM180 works fine
i'm running a CSM400 (HH), Futaba G154 mechanical, and the other to have Futaba GY401's in them
as to fit it I made an ali plate and bolted it onto the servo plate

with the LHC HH gyro it's like the 401 that you can run std or digi servo and turn the heading hold off with the tx and it's simple to set up

you can contact LHC on sales1@lhc-rc.com they do mail order so you don't need to collect from them, email Sean or Dave (no it's not me)

I'll see you saturday

Mk 2c

Hi everybody,

I built a 2c way back in the mid 70s and owe JM a great deal for my interest in model engineering and helicopters. He made the impossible quite attainable.

I still have the 2c which, now that I have returned to the fold(!), I intend to rebuild. I have also acquired, off ebay, a Mk3 Hughes and a BMk3 Bell 47.

Great to see so many peeole enthusing about Morley helicopters.

Best regards,

Damien
