Where do you fly?
I am in Bakersfield, I might come and fly there.

Ok guys, here is the update.

I just rebuilt my engine because I burned it 2 weeks ago. I broke it in yesterday and today I got a chance to test the new pinion more. Guys, it was so ballistic that it scared me when I fist flipped the idle switch. I was running 1920 and 1950 rpm. I noticed that at both headspeeds the engine seems to have no bog at all. It just pulls and pulls and pulls whatever moves I give it. However, I liked the 1920 more because the heli is tame and easy to control. Since I put the new pinion in, I have crashed 2 times and the pinion still holds up.

Bottom line, the new gear ration 7.75 really makes it different. You can run 1950 headspeed without worrying about the engine bearings. The YS91SR really makes more power with the new ratio.

The videos of it will be posted soon.

Here is my setup

- YS91 SR
- Hatori SB19
- 3 x 9451's
- Jockey Governor + s9650
- JR7703D + 8900
- Arizona regulator + evolite 2500 2s
- Radix 710 Stick Bangers

All are running on 6v except for the tail running on 5.1v

Very good flight. The pinion makes the N9 sound a little different so I guess I'm hearing the rotor more even. I do hear a higher pitch sound so I'm not sure what that is coming from. What are the needle settings? The motor sounds lean in the midrange! It would be nice to see/hear how the heli flys through a big high load maneuver.

Yes Chuckie, it was lean in midrange. I already gave it 1 click out after that.

Pitch setting: 13 for pitch, 7.5 for cyclic.

I also converter the 5mm flybar to 4 mm flybar and it was faster noticeably.

I'm making some more and hope I will have them in the end of this month.

I'm with Chuckie, I'd like to see that machine flown in big stuff and without the constant load on the rotor head to hear what the engine sounds like.

Although the new 16t pinion provides more power on a YS91SR engine I still see that 7.75 gear ratio is too low and I want to increase that ratio a little bit. So a new manigear with higher tooth number needs to be made. Here is my calculation based on 1950 headspeed:

124T / 16T --> 7.75 ratio --> 15112 engine rpm --> has been proven having better power

125T / 16T --> 7.8125 ratio --> 15234 engine rpm

126T / 16T --> 7.875 ratio --> 15356 engine rpm --> This is what I want to try right now.

127T / 16T --> 7.9375 ratio --> 15478 engine rpm --> This is what I want to try right now.

Ok guys, stay tuned!

Here is the latest update of this project

I just got some 128T maingears and 16T pinions in and the 8.0:1 gear ratio is made up. At this ratio the engine will revolve at 15600 rpm to achieve 1950 headspeed.

I have put 2 gallons through this new setup and the result is really successful. I got more torque during hard moves and I got the pop of 1950 headspeed. The engine runs cool and doesn't seem to be loaded up. Here is a video of me flying it:

One bad thing about these new maingears is that the heli becomes a little bit noisy because of not perfect material choice.

That looks a lot more promising than the 7.75 ratio. What material did you use for the main?

Tried the 8:1 gear ratio this afternoon (thanks Long for the gear and pinion) and I have say that I like it. I was running 1940 on the head and didn't have any problems with the engine bogging. Long, you were right about the gear being noisy. When I watched your video I thought your engine sounded a little lean; after flying with the gear this afternoon, however, I now realize the noise is the drivetrain. I had to run 3.5mm of shims on the engine mounts to get a decent gear mesh. It was a little loose but 3.0mm was just a little too tight. I put six tanks through it today and I'm hoping that the gear wore in just enough that I can remove .5mm on each side now and get a proper mesh. I think that ought to quiet it down some if it works. I have video from one of the flight that I will post later after it finishes encoding. Thanks again.

Thank you very much for your feed back.

Yes, the material is so hard that it's a little bit noisy. I'm still finding other more suitable materials. My shim setup is: 2 x 1.5mm shims + 1 x 1.0mm shim = 4mm on each side. I tried 3.5mm before but I think it worked but was a little bit too tight. Don't know why your shim setup is different from me.

I'm waiting for my new video and it should be up soon. And I'm also looking forward to seeing creightoncarr's video

I don't know why I was able to get by using less shims than you. I tried 4mm but the mesh was way to loose. With 3.5mm it was smooth but noisy. With 3mm the mesh was not smooth at all. I was a little worried that the main gear would get chewed up since the mesh with the pinion was a little loose but it seems the have held up well today. The video should be ready in about two hours or so. It's been uploaded to Vimeo but it awaiting their conversion process.

Here is my latest testing video:

http://www.socahc.com/upload/longng...1_gearratio.wmv

Note: Although my engine was not in perfect condition (was damaged last month due to bad fuel) and was not tuned properly (I'm not good at tuning engines) the engine still got power with this gear ratio.

Can we buy these gears. I would really like to change my ratio. I thought synergy was going to come out with a gear but never did to my knowledge.
