depends on what you're after. and your flying style. I'd have to say the 8717 is stronger but uses more power. 451 uses less power but costs more, and I haven't really heard many reviews about them yet. BLS451's are still too new.

I can please 1 person a day.
It's NOT your day.
Tomorrow's not lookin good, either

JR

Jr + their support cant be beaten. yes the 451 is brushless and the jr is coreless both very good design, but support is #1. there was a post about sending a servo back to futaba and it needed repair the unit was returned and no problem found he tried it again still inop so sent back with origional repair order and it was in warranty during the first and out the second and they wanted 85 of 115 to replace it. then to have nothing done it was 15 + shipping. they suck period, jr is way better and will last through out its warranty. just my 2 cents

I am running the BSL451s on my Trex 600N . All i can say is WOW! I had 9252s on there and now they are being used for throttle servos. I can get 5 flights out of a 2100 LiPo. I could only get 4 flights with the 9252s. The BSL451s are fast and more than enough power for the Trex 600N. They center better than any other servos i have owned.

I can not speek about the JR servos. I just have not tried them.

I'm curious, what do you guys think of the BLS9351s? I have them installed in my 600N Pro, hoping to have a maiden w/in one or two weeks. I paid $105 each for them and I know I could've gotten the JR's, but the energy needs of them concerned me and I'm not that good of a flier so I didn't think it would make a difference...

Thanks guys for such a quick response. Rymps did you have to modify anything on the 600N to fit the BLS451 servos?

all of the brushless servos are a bit new on the market right now I know the 8717 would work flawless and dose cost less ,,, power consumtion is what the brushless are best at but I would wait and see how they work out in the long run before investing in them

i wish i had 8717 i use S9451s all others are JR

just my 2 cents

I agree. I dont see the power hungry 8717s. They seem to be normal power consumption. I flew two tanks and put back 336 milliamps. Thats nothing really,(short flights yes about 6 min each) Average I have had to place back after a flight is about 300 to 330 tops.

Now I dont know the results of the BLS but I suspect its not that different. Anyone use a charger and can tell us how much ma go back in after a flight of the BLS servos? ???

Flying style (load) and resistance in the control surfaces (restrictions in movement) will increase the power consumption for sure. Just dont let anything bind up and I think your good. 8717s are spectacular servos really, built to last with the metal heatsnk, (provides isolation from the Gyro mounted above as well as heat dissapation)

Well knightofcarnage
No id di not have to mod anything. I just took out my 9252s and installed the BSL451s. I am using the Align wheels.

At the New Mexico fun fly last year JK was using them in his 600N. Since my LHS had them and i needed anouther set of servos, I figured i would try them. You will not be disapointed. I am running 9451s on my Synergy and they do not come back to center like the BSL451s. I am going to try to build anouther Trex 600N and i will be using BSL451s on that ship also. I want two helis set up the same incase a crash on the back up would be the same.

I agree on the BS451's vs. the 9451's. I just replaced the 9451's in my 600N with the BS451's a couple of weeks ago. The 451's center noticeable better than the 9451's and after about two dozen flights still have no slop which is more than I can say for the 9451's. The 9451's served me well but I definitely prefer the 451's now.

I have both the 9451s in my Evo 50 and the BLS451s in my 600n. The BLS451s do center better. I'm using an Arizona regulator on my 600N and getting about 10-12 flights out of a charge. I'm using the Align 2 into 1 on my Evo 50 and getting about 6 flights per charge. A couple of the guys at the club has the 8717s and are happy with them. They do use more power, they do cost more, and they do require you to trim the frame. IMHO, dollar for dollar, the Futaba servos are the way to go. Now if your are going to run 8 volts... the jury is still out, both the BLS451s and the 8717 will run at 8 volts, but I haven't seen any real data on that yet.

700N, EVO 50, Caliber 5, Beam 450, and comming soon TREX 9000 :)

I also have the BLS451, and the reason I decided on them over other servos is to hope they last longer so time will tell. They do seem to be more accurate. According to my Data Logger, the max current ever used by the whole system during flight is 1 amp at 6 Volts.

I think you might have mistaken me for someone else, I'm the one with BLS9351's. Seems like everyone else opted for the 9451's. Can 9351's be run at 8V? Ah hell, I ain't that good anyways...

I am running the BLS451 in 600N too, as well as the BLS251 on the tail with a CSM 720, have previously run 9252's and 8700G, I like these a lot better, time will tell as too how durable they are, well probably the first crash will tell me quicker :-)
