Thanks.. I kind of figured that was the case, but just wanted to double check.. No desire to fly her upside down either.

Note that my response wasn't specific to your setup, just my experience with scale helis in general.

BarracudaHockey - I understand

What's a rule of thumb on how long the exhaust tubing can be? I know that BarracudaHockey uses exhaust coupling tubing.. I'm planning on using Century's scale muffler and if I exit the exhaust out the back and down, the tubing could be, maybe 6" plus.. What say you guys?
Thanks

Exaust

Length not a problem height more of an issue if your exit is above pipe outlet could collect liquid and cause motor to load up and run fat. Tube and outlet should be same dia. of pipe exit to not restrict ex flow. Your helis looking great by the way! RAGGED

I run about 6" or so going uphill.

The thing with mufflers and exhaust extensions is this. You aren't demanding the most power from your setup like the 3d mindset folks so if you loose a bit of power from running a tad richer to compensate for a longer exhaust its no biggie.

Same with using a stock TT muffler or whatever you have that will fit.

That Century scale muffler is hateful on the ears, Emile packs them with steel wool to make them quieter and I believe he has had good success with that approach.

One thing I would reccomend, is a Venom onboard gauge to make sure whatever needle setting you are running isn't burning up the engine.

Thanks Andy.. I've decided not to use the Century Muffler.. Don't know what I'll use yet.. I don't want to have to cut into the side seam of the fuselage but looks like I don't have much choice..

NICE!!

I should start building the (FunKey) Long Ranger fuselage I have. The weather is bad overhere, perfect for starting a new project, but I'm too lazy to open the box

Darn, didn't know a heli could make such a big crater

Mac24... Go for it.. I think I'm hooked on Scale and haven't even flown it yet. The Fun-Key kit is amazing.. Everything fits perfectly.. Nothing needed rework.

Grant,

I opened the box last night to show the fuse to a nephew of mine and will start today with a drawing of the fuse and the colors/color scheme I would like to use.

There is a body shop just a block away (where my car will be fixed within 2 weeks), so I'll ask what I will need exactly to paint the fuse or what it would cost to have it painted by them.

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and I just completed a Funkey long ranger kit for my Hirobo Evo 50 also. Just did the test flight today. It flew great, just needed to do a little trimming with my radio. Got through one tank of gas with no problem. Grantl, I noticed that you had someone make your landing gear for you and I was wondering if you could give me some info on where you got them. Thanks

Or if you're comfy with a tubing bender and torch make them yourself.

Fuel Proofing

Tonight I fuel proofed the inside of the fuselage.. I used the recommended Z-Poxy Finishing Resin. That stuff is awesome.. Easy to mix..equal parts, workable for 30 mins, dries to a nice smooth finish.. Just thought I'd share for those who have inquired about the fuel proofing methods..

Good luck!

Too bad I haven't started my new project yet. My schedule has been quite hectic lately. In fact I haven't even flown in months. Bad weather over here.

BTW, have you decided which muffler you're going to use?

Yes.. I'm going to use the Maverick muffler (the one pictured).. I was going to use Century's Scale muffler but didn't hear anything good about it.. It apparently is noisy. If the Wx cooperates, Sunday will be my first season flight.. And test flights at that..
