LONG RANGER

I've got a funkey L-R with H-EVO 50 mech and was impressed with their fit and finish. Granted I installed it on mech. it was made for but cant see problem on R-50 or 600N Funkeys paint is very high quality! You might go to the field and see another but I doubt it. I put floats on mine and lettered it ALASKA AIR SERVICE its not a scale documented bird But it shure looks cool especially flying off snow. RAGGED

Started building the frame rails.. I'm using these dimensions as a starting point.. The documentation and parts to mount the Raptor frame that come with the kit are useless...

http://www.geocities.com/markmcalpine/funkey1.html

These dimensions for the rails fit perfectly into the fuselage.

Next step is fitting the Raptor frame and rails into the fuselage with the tail boom. Measuring and measuring again and again before drilling any mounting holes. Taking lots of time doing this..

I'm starting to work on getting the tail unit ready to fit into the tail on the LR..

I did a little mod on the Raptor tail unit.

Notice the sponge ring that comes with the kit.. This holds the tail boom in securely at the back end and eliminates vibration. Nice tight fit as well.

Tail Unit - Final fitting

Completing the final tail unit fitting..

It doesn't stop amazing me how perfect this Fun-key kit is. The Raptor 50 with Titan boom is a perfect fit.

Horizontal Stab

Glued in and aligned the Horizontal Stab mounting plywood joiner inside the fuselage. Took a long dowel, sanded down the tip and glued some rough sandpaper on to the tip so I could sand the fiberglass down before applying epoxy. Again, everything fitted perfectly..

Starwood sells little kits of wire strikes, antennas and such, called a scale fittings set.

That thing looks good.

If you cover the engine air outlet hole with painted screen it will all but disappear in the air.

You don't have a big cut out hole for the fan to push the air out the bottom?

Thank Peter Wales, I just got done reviewing his book on scale helis.

The other thing I found out, I have some old computer speakers, the grill is nearly a perfect match to what the full scale uses around the engine cowlings.

I want to paint my wooden rails and inside of my fuselage with fuel proof paint.. My LHS just told my that there is no brushable, fuel proof paint out there..

Any suggestions on what I can use? Thanks!

Muffler

You guys that have built this model.. What muffler did you use? Has anyone had any experience with Century's muffler with the Raptor frame and Hyper engine? Thanks

Though its less critical than with a 3d machine you should strive for a nuetral CG under the main rotor shaft if at all possible. If you don't fancy flying upside down with your pride and joy then a little trim is no big deal though it can cause it to pitch up or down if you get it moving fast.
