I recently purchased G4. The reason is I gave my father my G3 copy - so I might as well get the new shiny.

My initial impression was that the flight model is different - there are noticeable differences in the physics versus G3; it honestly does feel closer to the real thing than G3. I'm not sure if the difference is as large as between FMS -> G2 or from G2 -> G3, but it is noticeable.

Performance is identical to G3 on my MacBook Pro running Vista - I get smooth framerates at 1920x1200.

Crashes are also more spectacular - more pieces go flying around, along with "stuff" from the ground.

However, it's not without warts. Autos still need work - a "safe" auto in G4 usually requires a new set of skids in reality (and that's if you're lucky). Of course, I live at a 'hot and high' environment, so maybe the story would be different if I lived at sea level.

Water flying is somewhat interesting - though there's only one float equipped chopper that I know of.

The PBY-2 Catalina model is almost comical, however - I can send it full throttle nose-first into the water, and as long as the model surfaces upright, it'll keep flying. (Even if it does land inverted, you can throttle up and motor around in the water). No matter how hard you try, you can't get the PBY to crash.
