I just don't understand the mindset of "I'll make myself feel better about my purchase by dogging what others purchase"
There is nothing wrong with the Blade 400. But some people sure like to bash it?

Part of this hobby is learning about how it all works together, and changing setup.

The Rave I just built is an incredible bird, and I love to fly it, and that is a good thing. My Blade 400 obviously doesn't fly as well, but it doesn't fly that bad either.

To put it in perspective,

Rave 4S kit with good servos, miniG, and receiver = $1000
Blade 400 bind and fly = $280

For almost 4 times the money, yes, the Rave flies better. But the B400 is also fun to fly, and you can make it fly better with some good dampers, blades, and shims, that don't cost a lot of money.

At the same time, adding another $600 for good servos, gyro, and blue bling to a B400, probably doesn't make sense.

What I find to be fun, is trying stuff on the B400, that doesn't cost much money. The most slop on the head, is the washout base and arms, and the swash anti-rotation guide. $32.50 for those parts in aluminum will tighten it up. Most of the other plastic is pretty tight, so why waste money.

The bottom line for me, is that the Rave doesn't need anything, just ready to fly. But for the other part of the hobby, which is experimenting, and learning more about the mechanics that make it work, the B400 is great little platform.

Putting down other birds, is just stupid. They all have a place.

See, so easy to understand even a caveman gets it.

My point exactly.

i never said the 400 was a bad bird...mine has $1000 into it...thats how much i enjoy it..i enjoy building it, flying with it, screwing with it..the only stock part left on mine is the motor..everything else has been changed..not because of poor performance, but because now i have one that doesnt look like everyone elses.

that being said, i was just commenting on your post about never buying another align product....i stand behind what i said..there is not one part on the 400 that is higher quality than than a v1 or v2....the sa kit...is what you make of it...

Sorry Gix. I went off on a tangent. Most of my comments were still geared towards the type of people who stubbornly say that the blade is junk and not worth buying.
I agree the quality does not surpass the t-rex v1 or v2. I don't have either one so I cannot say for sure.
I do still stand behind my statement of MY T-rex S. Perhaps I got lemon parts, but I had troubles with bearings, one way bearings, gears, pulleys, belts.....You get the point. I suffered a few crashes from mechanical failures.
For me, my opinion only, I have had much greater luck with the Blade. Yes, it isn't a 3D demon, but it does 3D nicely. I Did have to upgrade it some and modify it some.
For the record, I DO NOT put the Blade 400 in the same catagory as a T-rex 450 or 500. It was never meant to compete with it or compete in contests. It was meant as a fun flyer, cheap to repair bird and to get people into the hobby.
For my true flying enjoyment I have a Hirobo, I have the Blade for my "Need a flight during lunch or in the backyard"
Sorry again if I came off as a bad guy.

I flew the Rave and the B400 today, testing some new batteries.

They are both fun. I am not going to sink any serious money in the B400, but it is something different, and well worth $280 to have another bird to fly around. I have payed more then that just work a gryo/servo set.

The bottom line, is that the blade 400 is capable of challenging anyone's skills.

If you are learning new skills, you can learn them on a B400 just like a more expensive machine.

Instead of bling, buy more batteries, and fly alot. It will do much more for your flying skill.

Servos

I've got three Hitec HS-65HB for the main servos and a Spektrum DSP75 for the tail servo. I am still getting some wag in the tail. I still have the stock Eflite EFLRG110HL Gyro. Any suggestions? I really don't have the $$ to get a new tail servo and gyro.

I have a set of Curtis Youngblood blades and a set of carbon tail blades.

I have the orginal paddles still. I've heard that I should replace the paddles for lighter ones. Thoughts?

I have flip flopped the blade grips.

What should I get or do to help me get a little more stability?

What happens when you turn the Gyro gain down?

Darth,

Try the tail drive speed-up gear to get rid of that wag. I recently installed one on my Blade, and I had to turn the gain so low on my gyro(JR 770), you wouldn't believe me if I told you. Basicly 10 less than the stock tail gear on my gain. Seems to me, that might help with the stock gyro having to work that much less than at the stock tail speed. It would be cheap enough to try it, and not break the bank on a new gyro.

A new gyro would put a big smile on your face though.

The less a man makes a clarative statement, the less likely he is to look like a fool in retrospect.

changing blade 400

I have owned my blade 400 for about one year.I haven't done much to it,but what I have done was mostly for durability. What I did was change the stock servos for 3 HS-65MG hitec. Then I changed the gyro to a align GP750 and added the futaba S9257 digital servo for the tail. Being that all of these are steel gears they don't strip out anymore on the little mishaps I seem to have on a regular basis.I have also put on all of the steel accsesories that you can buy.It is a pretty tough little bird now.

my blade400 is way past stock.
i have mini titan ace rc 8117`s on cyclic, which are some very good servo`s.
i have the hdx-300 3800kv motor, which has MORE power than the stock 420
i have the e-flite 40a pro esc.
the stock head and tail, but had the sonix`s cnc, the BEST cnc upgrades for the blade BY FAR. sold the sonix`s because i needed money.
e-flite cnc i have had was pure junk, and the microheli cnc i had was junk as well, neither had the quality of the sonix`s from http://www.cncheli.com
i`m running the Jr g370/ds3500g combo.
mavrikk mainblade`s
radix tail blade`s
the blade400 is a light heli compared to the align, that`s why most people who fly t-rex`s dont like the blade.
the blade is more responsive because it`s lighter and is less stable.
people with the t-rex`s are use to the docile move`s because of the wieght, when they fly the blade their lost.
the t-rex well not out manuver a blade, the blade is way lighter.

did i mention i have had my blade for over 2 year`s?

crash`s come easy patience`s doesnt

Fast400, the eflite 40 amp pro, does it have a governor? or is that a function of the throttle curve percentages?

blade grip and arm flip

I have never accomplished the "blade grip and arm flip" mod mentioned here on the head. Does anyone have a short video or a step-wise photo series, or willing to write a more detailed description of the process. All thumbs til I see it once. Ok, Ok, maybe a few times...

Thanks,
