My Posts This: Topic Forum | If it were me (and it was... ). I still went with G4 despite the switches. From what I read the minor changes are not something that would affect you in flight. I really haven't heard of to many people having a real issue with it.
Your mileage may vary, but for my buck, G4 was the ticket going forward. But opinions vary on this topic, and I'm speaking from "0" helicopter experience, but many, many fixed wing hours.
Speaking from a fixed wing point of view: I have several radios, most all of them are different (I need to replace them all too for that matter, but that's a different discussion entirely!). But... When I'd set up a new plane, it would get "Radio X" in it. I would know THAT particular radio, and equate the radio to the plane. So what-ever the switches were, THAT's what I would associate with that plane.
Over time, I knew the quirks, and different switch locations of all my radios, and it just wasn't an issue. I suspect that the same will be true here. IMHO... Don't make to much of it. At the beginning stages, everything tends to look like a lot larger issue than it really is. Time and experience will teach you what's mountain, and what's a pebble.
Fly the G4, and enjoy. From what I've heard, the physics in G4 are a bit better than G3.5 as well, and you get the upgraded graphix.
But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.
