No not yet but I heard it's in the works. I could use the lower ratio as well. It would be nice if Synergy would get to it sooner than later.

7.9 ~ 8.0 would be great for the YS90SR. I was thinking about running some myself. Would there be any interest?

7.9 ~ 8.0 would be great for the YS90SR. I was thinking about running some myself. Would there be any interest?

I talked with Joel this afternoon about having CNC'd either 119 or 120 tooth main gears to use with the 15T pinion for a 7.93 or 8.0 gearing option. The diameter of the main gear would be a few thousandth smaller than the stock main, but it'd be easy enough the shim the engine for the proper mesh. Either would allow the YS users to get 1950 on the head without running the engine up over 16000rpm. If he can get enough interest for 25 of them to be made they would be about $45 each I'm told and they could be ready in as little as a couple weeks. I've been hoping that there would be another gearing option available from Synergy, but I've heard nothing other than people wishing for it.

I'm in for two if there's enough interest. Anyone else?

7.83 118 tooth main gear.

Ok here is the run down.

At 8.26 and running the motor around 1830-1850, Your motor is turning 15115 -15,281 rpm. This seems to be the best rpm for the YS 91 SR. Here is the run down on what ratios to help you choose what would work best for you. I figured this on the high end of the rpm range so that it loads in to the power band.

head speed gear ratio Main gear teeth Pinion teeth
1900 8.04 121 (8.06) 15
1925 7.93 119(7.93) 15
1950 7.83 118(7.86) 15
1975 7.73 116(7.73) 15
2000 7.64 114(7.6) 15

I want the 7.83 ratio. 118 tooth Main gear. My worrie is taking 6 teeth of the gear, If you will need to take off any material off the motor mounts.

put me down for one 118 tooth main gear. This is one just 24 more to go..

I'll try to make the drawings next week (I should have some time due to the holidays) so I can get an exact OD for a 118 tooth gear. If it comes in at a diameter that will allow proper gear mesh without any other modifications to the motor mounts I'll go for the 118. I would like to get an idea as to if anyone else would be interested in these gears? I want to be clear... I'm not in the business of making heli parts nor do I want to be, but I want a better suited gear ratio for my N9 with the SR mounted. This is a one time thing and I'm doing it out of my pocket. I will only be selling the extras at my averaged cost for the entire run of gears so that I'm not paying over 1k for a main gear.

Joel

If someone else wants to do this I'll buy some gears from you... save me the trouble.

Hi joel,

I know of 5 guys includeing myself that want them. I will put out the word.

I myself am not worried about the motor mount. I have access to a mill if need be. But for most guys they don't. I just took a measurment on a gear, It looks like 4.959" diameter.

I'm wondering if it wouldn't be easier just to machine a new pinion. 16 tooth. this would drop it to 7.75 and most guys could use the extra shims included in the kit.

thanks!!

Craighton and I talked about that. It would be much more expensive for me to make a pinion because of the extra machining required... not to mention it would take me considerably longer to draw the pinion and I am basically very lazy. I'm getting a good deal for the CNC work because I send out many parts that we design for my real business and I'm only being charged set-up time at a very good rate. Material is only a few dollars each for the gear. I'm thinking Delren or glass impregnated plastic for the material... thoughts? The more you make the cheaper (per part) they are because the set-up fee is the same regardless.

I'm only planning on 25 and done if you think there is a want for more let me know before I make the run.

7.83 (118 tooth)

Tec,

I'm hoping some of my buddies have PM'd you on the 7.83 ratio. You should get a hold of Todd and see if he wants some also. I am in for at least 1. I am paypal ready.

Material used should be acetel black delrin. I believe that is what is being used the existing gears.

I hope this helps.

I'm glad to see all the interest in this. Delrin is what he plans on using for the gears. Since I lost two teeth in flight yesterday I'm in need of a new main gear. Believe me, I'll be on his ass to get the CAD work done ASAP. I know how LAZY Joel is and I'm going to make sure my pestering provides sufficient motivation to git 'er done.

gear size (118 tooth)

I might be wrong on this but I believe that by taking 6 teeth off the gear you will need to bring the motor in just under .12". Tec can you confirm this?

Thanks,

First, I would like to thank everyone for the response to this idea.

I just spent some time taking measurements and the results are not what I was hoping. The 124 tooth main gear has a circumference of 394mm and radius of 62.75mm. The 118 gear would have a circumference of 375mm and radius of 59.71. This would mean that the motor would have to move inward 3.04mm. That is too much without modifying the engine mounts significantly. I feel that this is not longer a viable option.

However... I'm now thinking of doing the 16 tooth pinion. This would be a 7.75 ratio with the stock 124t main gear. I can't say as to the cost but it will be more than $45. and longer time to get it done. Is anyone interested in pursuing this option?
