My Posts This: Topic Forum | safetyRegarding the safety of our event, at no time did anyone, EMTs or otherwise communicate with any of the Weak Signals Club members or myself about any concerns to do with severe weather or lightening.
I verified this with the AMA CD/Weak Signals Club officer present at the event, Mike Lucier. He didn't hear of any such concerns and if he had he would have immediately brought it to my attention and we would have handled the situation with safety in mind for our participants. The safety of everyone at our event was of prime importance.
We also had live satellite radar on site that we constantly monitored both for the safety of our participants but also to direct whatever full scale aircraft were inbound and outbound. We also had radio contact with several full scale pilots who had access to immediate weather information from their respective control towers at the surrounding airports to keep abreast of any potential inclement weather heading our way.
The raffle timing worked out exceptionally well. It poured through the raffle drawing, but as soon as we finished the sky literally cleared, the wind calmed and the flying for the rest of the evening was wonderful.
We were very happy with the turn out considering the weather forecast leading up to the event being rather gloomy. Despite higher fuel and travel costs we had over 75% of the participants who had pre-registered well over half the amount of participants who showed up last year. All considered, there were no claims of radio trouble, flight station complaints or flying time restrictions.
All in all everyone whom I spoke with, which was nearly everyone, had positive things to say about the event. I intend to tweak some things for the next event, though I do hope the weather looks and is a bit brighter next time.
