Hi Chuckie,

Are your stock needle settings you have suggested valid for the YS91SR3C? the carb is slightly different

I would say no as I don't own the SR3C motor or have helped anyone tune them.

Hello Chuckie,

I followed your suggestion on the YS91SR setting for the needle.

Boy oh boy, the power unleashed is amazing!

I am really happy with the engine now...no problem whatsoever...

One thing to note though..the engine seems to run a little bit on the hotter side...does this happen to your engine?

And it still drinks more fuel than the OS engines that I have...

But I am really happy with the performance now...I think I can enjoy the true colours of the YS engine now...that is excellent!

Thanks for the recommendation above all.

Eagleman!

Hi Eagleman,

Mine appears to feel hotter on the backplate than the OS engine as well, i'm still not sure if this is normal or not with the YS. Mine came to life today and am pretty impressed with it.

Brendan,

How are you mate. I saw on your profile, you are from Cronulla back in Aus.

I used to fly in Belrose. Where do you fly? Appin?

Yeah....it feels hotter than OS engine but it seems to fly with no problem though..that is strange..

I suppose engine has to be hot since it is burning fuel and air in it...

But no worries I guess...

That's good to hear EagleMan! And Brendan78 are you saying your motor doesn't kick any longer?

For the most part I don't use temp as a measure to tune the motor. I have noticed the top case by the fan is cool to the touch upon landing after a few minutes of flying and the engine head temp of 225F seems normal for my style of flying. The readings depends on how hard you fly and how soon you get to the heli when you land.

I tune by engine sound and smoke output. My flying tips are meant to tell you when the needles are set too lean. Try leaning the needles one click at a time and flying the heli as I suggest. The mid controls both the mid and high so don't adjust both at the same time. Keep in mind the seasonal changes I mentioned. With a bit of practice and listening to the engine while you fly you will be able to recognize when the engine is running its best or too lean. It's never a problem running too rich so if you get lost start over and richen up the needles.

Hi Eagelman,

I've flown at Belrose once with Taipan (Kev), but I mainly fly now at the Garawarra club or down the South coast. Did you move to Dubai chasing work?? to you fly with Tareq over there? The heat thing has confused me at first with my YS91SR3C compared to my OS, but I think I have started to nail it down yesterday. Another thing which might add to confusion with the SR3C with backplate temp, is that the backplate is lined with a steel ring which would help retain temp there, so i've ben trying to listen to the engine and look at the smoke trail now, having more success with that.

Chuckie, I think the trip with my YS91SR3C, and i'm not sure if it has anything to do with the Kasama header or not, was to add a head shim and run an OS8 to retard the timing a bit. I was running it yesterday afternoon and it seems to be coming good. I still had a good smoke trail, it transitions well, and I was pulling 13.5 degrees pitch (probably could have pulled more, but that's all I was running) without bogging and with a solid smoke trail. I did ram the heli into some tight fast tic-tocs and then a tail slide to check out that linear tunning you mentioned, and I think the engine is still on the rich side at the moment. It is still a little rough up high, I think this is due to it running a tad rich, but it looks like the kicking is gone, it's now a random kick on the tail due to the motor running a tad rich.

Originally, without the shim, on the settings you said, the mid sounded lean on my motor which is why I was asking so many questions. I had it almost right yesterday and then had to deal with another issue (radio glitch!!!) so that cut my tunning short, I saved my heli though. I've had a long running issue with my heli in that it's got an intermittant cyclic glitch to the left (it's an electronic issue).

One thing, do any of you know of a taco that you can operate by yourself? I have the skytach at the moment, but you need someone with you to tach your heli. I had a boom mounted tach, but I didn't like the idea of mounting something to the boom of the heli to to do that.

Hey Brendan,

Taipan is a good mate of mine and I know Tareq quite well here in Dubai..he is insane when he is flying...i think the smackdown style is getting really popular and kinda almost out of control...

I don't fly smackdown, I try to blend F3C and 3D together hence I tried to make things more precise and pull big moves rather than close to the ground running blood pressure exceeding 200!

How does the YS91SR3C compared to the SR? I ran mine with the Hatori 938-2 with Kasama optional header (full bored out manifold) and the result has been great. I noticed no difference to SB-19 performance wise...

I have been testing a new Korean fuel (KY fuel KR-3000 - 30%nitro/24% oil) with great success here...it is unbelievable! The YS runs smoother than Coolpower 30 heli and you can lean another 2-3 clicks with the same engine temperature..amazing stuff!

How's your turbulence? You have one don't you?

Hi Eagleman,

Kev is a great bloke, awesome pilot too! he fly's the way I would like to fly, smooth precision 3d, i'm not interested in smackdown, Dominik Haegele's flying is what I like. I've only ever owned OS91's (the SZ and the HZ) before my current YS91SR3C so I can't compare it against the SR. I'm running the Hatori 946 with Kasama header, and have also added an extra headshim (Coolpower 30% fuel/OS8 plug). I've almost leaned out the engine and it's makign really good power now, not quite as smooth as the HZ though, but feels like it may have more power.

My Turbulence is awesome love flying that thing, i'll probably look at getting a second one to have as well it's that nice to fly. I've had a bit of bad luck on engine front in it at the moment (Coming good now) and a radio glitch in it (Should have that fixed now) so had a bit of a rocky start over the last two months with it. Love my Turbulence though

Hello Brendan78,

That is great to hear. My YS is running awesome now in my Synergy. I am really happy with it. I am almost converted now to the YS...haha

I wanted to get the Turbulence too, but I think due to budgetary conditions (for the moment, read: wife moving to Dubai next week), all the expenditure allowance has been filtered...=)

The only thing is that the Turb is really expensive.

Oh well, if you get to see Kev, please tell him that Jonathan sends his regards...he will know what I mean...

Do you know Bob Flint in Belrose by any chance?

Cheers,

Eagleman!

Hi Eagleman,

I know Big Dave there but that's about it, I only really flew Belrose once, Kev seems to come out around the place flying which is why I run into him sometimes, I'll tell him you said hello. Moving is expensive! you should take a Turbulence for a test drive if one of your mates have one to see if you like them first, I don't regret getting mine at all but everyone has there own taste, the Synergy flies really well as well.

I'm beginning to really like my YS as well, but it still hasn't won me over from my HZ yet, will see if it smooth's out a bit as I lean it out, if it smooth's out, then it will win me over as it holds it's needle settings really well throughout the flight.
