I was on my second test flight with my new AP2000i and without warning about 15ft off the ground it rolls almost completely inverted and crashes. The first flight and most of the second went flawlessly. Has anyone else had or seen anything similar whit this unit? Yes all components were very secured to the heli and I had a full battery in both the heli and remote. I had just enough time to turn off the stabilization but it was to late. A bitter sweet bonus is that my video camera never quite rolling. When I get it uploaded to youtube I will post a link.

Here is the video as promised.[size=large]

Sorry about the heli!

I heard that the plug into the FMA Infra Red sensor can be tempramental, I have been advised to solder the wires in place.

I too have just fitted my AP2000i to my Hirobo Freya and initially I had a number of problems but all were sorted out by talking to Mark Webber at Webber Aerial Imaging. I found most of my problems were due to my set up and calibration and not the AP 2000i.

Did you recal in between each of your flights?? I found the way I had my unit set up on my radio I had to recal every time before I went to on and back again. This can cause you a problem especially if you switch it on and off in the air more than once.

Now I have the on off function set on a 3 way switch on the radio with center being off, up being CAL and down being on. this way I can cal on the ground with the heli level then I can switch it on and off in the air without going through the CAL.

Another thing I learn t was that too much gain is not good to start with, I started with 20% and increased to 40% as I slowly am getting used to how it operates.

I also do a check on the ground before each lift off, meaning to say I spool up then flick the switch to on and see if there is any major movement of the swash plate before I fly this way I know it wont do any thing really drastic in the air once airborne.

Finally you can adjust the setting in the AP 2000i below is what I got from Mark Webber,

"Lastly, you may want to increase the GrtI % in your AP2000i menu. It is default at 2%. Maybe move this to 4%. What this does is slow down the response of the gain when you flip the switch. Slowing it down will make the heli react less quickly when you flip that switch giving you more time for recovery should anything be wrong".

I am still learning this as well but I hope my experiences can help you. Finally I when I first tried to use the AP2000i I actually got my friend to operate the on /off switch on my radio that operated the AP whilst I flew the heli this way if it looked like anything going wrong I was ready to make adjustments and he could quickly switch it off.

Got the heli all back together and have been flying successfully since. It must have been the gain being set too high with the sun low in the sky.

Well I had the plug to the FMA sensor fail once, crashing a heli with a hard right roll. Later I had the carbon faceplate short out the outermost servowire on the unit, dropping voltage and crashing for a 2nd time. Apart from that I feel that Spartan has potential, and delivered a meaningful product. Just keep an eye on the two issues mentioned here.

I just purchased an ap2000i w/cpd4 infared sensor for my raptor 90 with 611 gyro dx 7 radio, I performed the calibration on top of my truck, took off with the co pilot off, hovered around flew a little bit , everything fine took it up about 30 feet in a hover and hit the copilot (had gain on 60%) the collective advanced and went up to about 100 ft so I turned the ap2000i off but the heli still did not respond to any of my inputs and gravity took over and it hit the ground prety hard, I guess I'm not so impressed with the ap2000i.
