In the picture of the heli with the Pro-1, I cannot see the WeControl unit underneath . Is it fitted ?.

What is the all-up weight, including the Pro-1 ?. Would it have to go under the landing gear you have already ?.

Your own videos would be a very good idea so people can see what they would be buying.

Ballpark price ?.

Thanks,
Barry.

What you are seeing under the helicopter is the IMU. With the Pro1 version you saw, this IMU was mounted on the helciopter's side frame. We would put smaller gear on the helicopter (like the stock joker gear) if the Pro-1 is to be mounted. Either works fine.

As I said before, anyone who would like videos should email me directly as I'm not sure how to post videos on here (yes, thank you, we will get some videos on the website soon). Typically our customers schedule a site visit and demonstration before they buy in any quantity. It seems as though enough people are selling systems that either don't work, or are too difficult to integrate that there is a lot of skepticism out there. This is unfortunate, but we have found that site visits and live demonstrations cure this skepticism quickly. For example, the pictures you see at 10000ft agl were from a demonstration for the Summit County Search and Rescue in Breckenridge Colorado. We went there because we had to show that the autopilot+helicopter could function properly in very cold temps and at pretty low air density.

Lance, what if a new customer has a model that you guys have already integrated on? I.E.-

We have automated Maxi Jokers, Spectra G's, Bergens, etc.

This market, IMO, isn't quite the one for a $30G autopilot except for maybe a couple of us. Being able to save that $7 to $10G on integration would probably be the deal maker. You specify the set up and the customer complies, i.e.- the placement of the IMU and associated gear, rotor blades, rotor rpm, etc. Anything that affects the overall stability and performance. If we could do this and have a brief system checkout by one of your technicians, then maybe I can see a few being sold within this market. Otherwise, IMO your looking at the industrial helicopter market such as the RMax series and similar. Most people here are just getting started and don't have the capitol to invest in a high end autopilot.

Although, I really like the stated performance of the 2000 with on the fly nav updating. That's the fashizl man.

The beatings will continue until morale improves...

The Swiss make the best UAV's in the world. They don't have crazy FAA restrictions so they can have a lot more real world experience. They also produced the super accurate uBlox-5. It's in a different league than the sparkfun modules.

DKTek,

Yes, we would probably work with a company/individual who wanted to strap everything on themselves. There is still a great deal of setup involved that would require quite a bit of our attention (we don't have a generic integration manual). You can see that many people are having all kinds of trouble integrating autopilots these days, and you just have to ask the question "will I put one of my people that cost ~$80K or more on this project for 8+ months to get this thing working...or will I just pay a company an extra $8-10K to do it for me in one week, and prove it before I pay?" Of course, all our customers choose the latter usually due to time and budget constraints. Its just the market we chose to ensure product reliability and success.

I would disagree with you that this is not the forum. We obtain significant exposure from sites such as this and there are many companies/individuals out there flying their UAV helicopters with great success. Are we in the business to sell a hobby product?...you could argue no, but you would be surprised at how many hobby R/C guys turn into industry partners. I originally responded here because people were writing about wePilot who didn't seem to have experience with the products. I just wanted to clear it up. To tell you the truth, I was google searching something to do with UAVs, and this was the forum that popped up first. I was concerned that potential customers would get the wrong idea about our products by reading this forum, so I decided to just clear things up.

As far as our pricing, I also wish these things were cheaper, but the truth is, we use very high quality parts and these sensors are expensive. You just wouldn't believe some of the costs (ex. I spend $1200 on a tool to crimp wire so that wires don't break in flight). Getting a helicopter to fly by itself is one thing we are good at...but keeping the system running (robustness of controller as well as physical toughness) is more of what we do well.

By the way...you would also be surprised at how many large defense and other contractors (all of them) own things like maxi jokers, Bergens, etc. I bet they end up on this website a lot more than you realize. As an example, wasn't one of the guys on this post asking for resume's of r/c pilots a while back?

Take care,

Lance Holly

attached is a photo of a YAK we just completed. This one now has 7-8 missions flown under its belt.

I would argue that you can't afford to invest in a low end autopilot
