I hate the idea of mounting the tail servo on my 3XD so far back from the CG (on the tail fin) so I was wondering what other people have done to mount it farther forward. Pics, explanations, and ideas welcome!

Well the H2 had the servo mounted at the front of the boom stock via a glued on piece of plastic - I use a mH aluminum mount and Duzi has a mount as well and Modefo's sells both

I've meant to try it but I've never mounted my servo back on the tail like the X3D but it may have some beneficial reason for them moving it back there - I know on my BCP I do prefer the behavior with the weight of a heatsink on the tail motor than without it

The X-3D mounts the battery up front, with the tail servo on the fin out back the CofG is good with 3xTP1320 packs. If you revert back to a H2 servo and long carbon push rod then the CofG will be bias to the front.

Oh right I momentarily forgot about the X3D not having the freedom of battery placement that the H2 has - I think it'd be difficult indeed to balance it with the servo moved

I think they should have moved the motor above the upper frame and lengthened the landing struts to mount above the lower frame instead of below it to give the whole under lower frame even more CG freedom instead of less with the way the battery mount is now
