I know the counter shaft bearings are sealed so do they not need to be lubricated when you install them?

The bearings are shielded, not sealed.....big difference. They do come lubed, but need relubing, IMHO, at every teardown/inspection.

Thanks steve.
Do I soak them in tri-flow or spray them down with teflon spray?

Any lubricant will help, but I personally use bearing grease installed with the Greaser. It's a tool for greasing bearings.

I don't recommend Triflow on bearings. The little bits of Teflon will actually make the bearings feel rough.

I agree with Steve. Use grease instead of the Triflow CLP.

Sorry Mike. Found the upper frames but both sides are damaged.

I must have the hardened shaft as mine was just polished a bit at the bearings and bearing were GTG. Frame was good and the top pinion wouldn't come off so I didn't mess with it. Measured up and down play when installed and it was less than 1 MM.

Aren't you glad you checked
Since the shaft was polished where the bearing sits you now know that they weren't locked to the shaft. 1MM I guess is acceptable as long as the piniion isn't rubbing inside the crown gear and the intermediate gear isn't rubbing on the bottom of the frame.

I would bet that the set screw on your pinion has been loctite
easiest to remove the set screw is to remove the intermediate shaft from the heli and heat the set screw up using a propane torch.

I no longer use loctite in set screws for this reason, IMO it is a bit of overkill as they never come loose on my heli's. I just tighten them good and check them during the preflight.

I replace those set screws every time I remove them. The small one just strip too easy.
