Last min change from picture shown (FAI) to a 3D setup ready for the weekend.
Thanks to Fastlad for the delivery of V blades and V paddles I have also changed to harder dampers, changed bearing spacing and rotated to leading grip.

Flew the Avro last night!

Only one tank so very mild 3D flying and all I can say is

WOW! WOW! WOW! WOW!

Built out of the box as per the manual (sportsman's 3D setup to start, Radix all round) ,absolutely no vibes (tank like a millpond) , tracks perfectly, roles perfectly, no funny noises and tail felt awesome with stock gyro settings. I honestly can't ask for anything more at this stage.

A special thank you to all at Blitz for producing this excellent heli as well as the excellent customer service I have received.
A thank you to other retailers like Real Raptors, Fastlad and Flyinfish and JR UK for providing all the miscellaneous items for this particular heli.

As a lot of you know I come from the F3C/sportsman's background however I really want to push the 3D envelope over the next few months. This hopefully means I can bump Guinness glasses with the 3D folks going to Charmouth?

Sorry forgot to add...

To assist with the build of this superb machine you need the following...

Taken twice a day to get the new ball links on and off

Good effort John!

I managed to get a bit more done on mine last night... It won't be flying this weekend, but should be by the following one. Interested and inquisitive one and a half year old boys tend to slow you down!

Just out of interest I've gone for the 3D bearing setup, but then for the rest of the head option I've stuck with the F3C configuration. I hoping to achieve a smooth stable setup that can still 3D...

Have fun at Charmouth!

I would suggest the setup I used above as a start.

Leading grip, wide bearings, 0 delta, and then change the ratio to be mild. i.e more flybar input and less cyclic.

looking at mixer arm... balls out on both ends shorter arm to the blade grip/flybar input. longer arm to swash.
It felt extremely locked in the hover for a mild 3d setup yet rolled on a die. Superb!

Even though thew above setup is better suited for my level of 3D flying I am going to swing my mixer arm over to try a lower flybar input /more swash more commonly used for harder 3D.
Will keep you all posted... Rather everyone at Charmouth will find out as this will be the second flight

Hi John,

I'm going to stick with the "gentle" set up first, but I may well modify it later - that's the beauty of the design!

I'm a bit of a "loads of expo" and "gentle setup" kind of guy anything too quick gets my pulse racing... You only have a finite numer of hearbeats ;-)

I have a set of SAB 71s to try first, but I may well end up using Radix blades as I know that they work well on some of the Avro's I've seen flying.

As for paddles, I'm not sure yet... Again the SAB option has been recommended, so that's probably what I'll try first.

Has anybody received a kit in the USA yet? I'm wondering if there are any customs related complications/fees with the international shipping.

I know that a number of kits have been shipped to the US, and have been built and flown!

I don't know who these people are, but I'm sure Blitz will probably be aware of any customs related issues. Why not drop them an e-mail and ask the question...

I did. They gave me a tariff code. They gave me a price for shipping costs. I don't know what to do with the tariff code to determine duty, if any. I did some looking around on the US customs website, but that search didn't answer any questions.

So I'm hoping to hear from someone who did it already.

Guys I'm out of here

Best of luck to all with their heli's

I personally am proud not be associated with any particular manufacturer and those that know me always know I will state my honest opinion. (Whether some manufacturers like it or not.)

Obviously my Avro post and flight report requested by yourselves was not appreciated by the marketing machine. Nor my biased fish comment on page three.

I will let everybody else decide on this superb heli.

I'm off to go build my 600N as a training 3D machine!

Good luck to all!

that's a shame mate, people really should have all the facts before they take action...plenty of other places that will hear your opinions openly,

Hi John,

that is really a shame, as there are many other build and flight threads for other helicotpers and nothing here except happy people talking about their new baby

Good luck to you and anyway, the Avro is a superb machine, i'm taking a lot of pleasure to build it and i'm just waiting now for my engine and electronics to arrive .. The week end will be loooong )))

BEst regards,

Fabien
