Steve,

You are one of the few AMA employees that the public actually could access and one of the few that really knew his stuff and shared it with others.

Again, good luck in the future Steve - you are one of the good ones and the AMA lost a bunch with your leaving.

Steve,

Sounds like Cherry has some sort of personal vendetta...... Clearly an overreaction on his part.....

It sounds like it is time for the AMA Members to be heard on this one. The elections following this event will tell how upset the membership is about this. If Mr. Cherry continues to choose not to post his side of this incident then the members should start up a partition for the removal of Mr. Cherry from his current position. and I am going to vote against all of the incumbents in future elections. I am going to try to be at the next AMA membership meeting on the west coast. I want some answers on this and I think this incident is going to make the meeting very interesting.

Let's see who has the real power in the AMA. I still believe it is the membership.

The SIGs should get involved as well. No point in giving them money if they can't twist any arms in a situation like this.

Pitifull situation.

Looks like it was more important to Mr. C that the paper work be right than the field properly/timely prepared.

From this remark, looks to me like someone is more interested in saving his pride/face in his openion than the knee high grass.

He should have had his butt on a mower as well, helping Steve cut grass, emptying trash barrels, or something besides going balistic over someone working above and beyond.

I am sure that there are a surfeit of lawyers that would love to review this case.

Just a thought.

Sounds like over the top and petty to me. More like, "my kingdom-my rules". Mr Cherry couldn't care less if the IRCHA event went well, or if preparations were complete. Penalizing someone for trying to help with free physical labor to prepare for an event. Clearly not in the interest of the membership. I don't have to wonder any more if my membership dollars are being spent wisely. They turn away free help so they can pay for it.
I'm finding it more difficult to justify my membership with managment like that.

I am the AMA, I don't accept help or handouts, and I'll fire anybody that that works here off the clock.

I'm very upset about this.

Clearly a case of "Little Hitler" syndrome - where the ego handily outruns the brain . . . .

Perhaps like someone with a fully functional brain, who is capable of admitting that he is not perfect, that he can make mistakes, and that he is a "big enough" man to correct them, perhaps?

Sorry for my french, but god, what an a**hole . . . .

I am glad we are getting Steve's side of the story.

I can sort of understand the need to have the mower request come from IRCHA. I also know how difficult it is to put on a Fun-Fly, and without people like Steve just jumping up and getting things done it would be a real mess.

However, the fact that Steve basically disregarded a order given does not warrant quit or be fired. Some sort of disciplinary action is justified, but I highly doubt that termination for a first offense is in the AMA's employee guidelines.

Mr. Cherry clearly over reacted and he needs to be dealt with. I get a vivid picture of him thumping his chest and yelling "I'm the boss!"

I will be contacting persons within the AMA organization about this matter and seeking recourse.

It would be pretty foolish for any company to comment in a public forum about employment matters. First thing we do is call the lawyer and you can be certain we have a file a mile thick if we have to do anything. If I was Cherry I'd be watching for a wrongful dismissal suit. Though it sounds like Steve is far too nice of a guy to bring it. I don't know state laws there, but I do know it is EXPENSIVE for me to get rid of long term employees. Think 1 month of severance for every year worked.

I'm not certain why a conversation with the Maintenance Director or at worst a letter couldn't clear this up immediately. But it would seem to me that even if reinstated the position would be too toxic to enjoy.

Best of Luck, Steve. You have definately earned some serious support from the community.

As I read Steve's account, he DID NOT violate any directives . . .

Quote
Later in the week Jim Cherry asked me to not request the use of any equipment during the Jamboree (a week which I was on vacation) personally as he needed to track what was being used and wanted the IRCHA Event Director to make all requests. I agreed as I understood this need.

Note the request to not use anything was FOR THE WEEK OF THE JAMBOREE!!

Quote
So, the Saturday morning prior to the week IRCHA started my 16 year-old son and I met a couple of the maintenance guys, got the mowers out and started down the road to the site to be used by the Jamboree.

Note that this was THE WEEK PRIOR TO THE JAMBOREE!!!

So exactly what was ignored again? It appears that Mr. Douchebag can't even remember his own requests . . . . and that Steve had found a way to stay within the directions he was given, and still help out . . . No?

If someone decides to organize a protest of this decision, I'm in. Steve IS a good guy. And a ambassador of this segment of the hobby.

Its Boycott the AMA Time

I think that Mr. Cherry is wrong. Something smells fishy over at the AMA. I think we should all boycott signing back up for next year. And if that means no IRCHA next year, then so be it.

thanks, Dave C.

As much as I'd like to show support in such a manner, I'm afraid I couldn't bear not being able to use my clubs' fields due to such a protest.

No, but if IRCHA really had balls, they'd move the event somewhere else. I think any paying IRCHA member should boycott the Jambo if it's held at AMA again.

As a side note, there is scuttlebutt going around about us contest guys holding the US Heli Nationals somewhere else, too. Now that SK is gone, that's an even larger reason. Helicopters have no inside man at the AMA now.

a blade cx?

The AMA is so un-heli friendly, it's disgusting. Look how many pages of control line, nostalgia, and free flight there are. I'm sick of reading about the "good 'ol days".

OK..so instead of all the posting on here...How about someone who is claiming to be all pissed off come up with a workable idea.

Boycotts are not going to work since it will just mean we can't fly at many fields, and heli guys are a really small part of the total AMA.

Wanna start a petition to get Cherry relived? OK. But DO something, not just post.

I still don't have enough info to form up a lynch party...But right now I would like Cherry to explain his actions.

Steve...I'd sue if you have a case.
