Yes a lot has been going on. We've already begun producing components that we know will not change.
Also, we've been testing a new steel main gear. I didn't want to say anything until we had a few more flights on it. In the extreme power setups, I think the steel main gear is going to be the ticket. For hard 3D up to 6S the plastic gear seems to hold up fine. Even for sport flying the plastic gears hold up well on 8S. However, we've fought the gear stripping problem on and off on Henry's 8S machine. We found setups that the plastic gear would work fine on, but when we started dialing in the gear ratio around where Henry likes it...pop goes the weasel. I think we were just putting in more power than the plastic would handle. We tried several combinations and even played around with different pitch diameters to find an optimum mesh. This helped some. Although in every case, Henry eventually found a way to shred it. We even thought about going with a larger main gear. However, I've heard that there are some other brands out there which have larger plastic main gears and still suffer from stripping problems. Our hope is to just eliminate this concern altogether by going to a stronger material (steel) and keep the main gear the same size. This will allow us to maintain backward compatibility while hopefully solving the issue. The good news is that the steel gear seems to be working fine so far. Keep your fingers crossed!
I've attached a pic of the steel gear so that you can see what it looks like.
PS. NC Flyer...I did see the pics....sent you a PM.
