I tell ya, I have had a bergen gasser and have had no problems with things coming loose and vibrations. I believe it is a sound heli.
I find it amusing how when an engineer gets involved things are not designed right and there is an better way of doing things. I believe after the mods that syon thinks needs to be made comparing it to a bone stock bergen, there will be no difference in performance and longitivity, just one being more complex and more expensive to make.
I think that custom home made add ons are cool, but on this heli, its simply not needed, just proper tuning and building practices.

Many people don't realize that things are often designed the way they are for a reason. Every person with a paper engineering degree thinks they know the best way to design a helicopter. But that's cool... if the guy wants to reinvent the wheel, the God bless the free market economy.

I just caught up with this thread myself. I certainly don't understand why someone would re-invent something that works well to start with. I fly 2 Bergens and I have never had a problem with the frames or drive train. I will also admit that I have had my fair share of crashes over the past two years and the frames have only been a problem once. Seeing as though I flew it into the ground from a loop started at 8 feet at full power, you'd expect things to break.

I have never chewed up a main gear and as long as you take the time to set it up right, you should be fine. While I am not flying with a load doing AP work, I do throw the heli around.

I also fly a Bergen Turbine and haven't had any frame issues either. This thing fully fueled comes in at over 18 lbs and I fly it hard also. While I haven't crashed it yet, I expect it will hold up as well as the Gasser.

Good luck on spending more money for your mods for little in return IMHO.

The cost factor hasn't been that insatisfactory-

The cost to repair on my own, cut and make replacement parts is less than what it would normally be if i ordered it from a vendor.
albeit , the replacement cost is a given if you don't know how to Make your own replacement parts.

with that said, i can understand the negative feedback on here from a few. but thats to be expected.
So far since making my replacement parts, i have yet to have to order anything major or even minor, other than clutch bells.

a heli is like a marriage, most of the time it works, the rest it don't.

Syon,
Nice work. There is no harm in checking it out right?

Chris,
I am amazed at how good you guys are to work with, Bounce ideas off. I am sure you had to bite your tounge when I sent you pics of my shot at revising the Observer mount. Which by the way might go back to the original Bergen config. You guys are great.

Hmmm.

Hmmm,
I've been following this thread with interest, it started out as a simple question and has progressed into an engineering discussion, then into a put-your-money-where your mouth is debate. So I have a few questions,
1. Why no Titanium? Other than a plastic helicopter that shares the same name, do any heli manufacturers use Ti in any applications? 2.Would anybody shell out for the coolest bling at your field?
3. I just bought an old X-cell with white G10 sideframes, black upper sideframes, Canfield balancer on aluminum fan, a quarter-inch thick G-10 middle frame partition part- are these all Bergen upgrades that got the company's foot in the door?
4. Lastly, where are the pictures of this Stainless Special? Sounds cool, it only takes a minute to snap a pic and upload it. If you want to sell some parts eventually, let's see what you've got!
Cheers, Vince

To paraphrase something I've heard Chris say before, "Sure I can build you a titanium helicopter. How much are you willing to pay for it?"

Old news

Has anybody been following this tale, or saw what happened in the classified section? It appears that Syon sold the helicopter then the buyer has not received it in a month and a half, and has not heard back from the seller.
Hate to see anybody get screwed, does anybody kno who Syon is and can help the buyer out?

It's been 5 monthes now and no Heli , So at this Point I believe I Have the Right from this point on to Say this Guy is a Theif And He will be brought up on felony Mail fraud charges and Grand theft. I really Hope he enjoys the jail time. I think the mail fraud holds up to a 5 year stay by itself.

Bummer

That's a bummer, sorry to see anybody get ripped off. My guess is the seller may already be in a psychiatric ward anyway. Hope you get some satisfaction, Bergens are great helis as is anyway and you won't find better support (on the other forum Chris Bergen is a regular and eager to help out with any problems)
Good luck,
Vince
