Hi, i just joined this site and would like to get into rc helicopters. I've read alot of posts and see that alot of people are suggesting to buy a T-rex 450.
So i started looking on sites to see where i can buy one. And noticed that there are a few different t-rex 450 models. Which one is the newest and improved / best?
Does anyone know where i can get one for a really good price with the best package.
I live in canada. Thx

sim

get a sim for sure and also start with a twister bell 47 a very good way to start ,you need to get your hovering right befor you can start forward flight ,
The sim will get you Hovering and the Twister bell will give you loads of fun
and why your getting the hang of hovering in the sim and having fun with your bell 47 you can save for a V2 T-Rex

when the XTR video comes up make the box small, IT looks much better ,,,Dont know why it comes up that big
well make it till you like it lol but on windows player its best at 50% screen size

Twister

The twister is wicked
It will help you a lot and so cheep and SO easy to fly
if you have never flown a heli and you get a Trex you will crash and burn very quick
we all crash BUT you wont crash as quick with learning to fly with a bell (or a hirobo lama if you have the cash)
flying Helis aint Easy

with the T-Rex well how much you goto spend and why not look on ebay lots of peebs seling theres

ooh my god ,, i spent all the shopping money on helis DOH!!

i'm not saying that the twister is a bad heli. I just know that i'll want to upgrade right away as soon as i get it in the air. So i mine as well just buy the t-rex right away and use the money that i would of for that twister for parts when i crash lol
Plus i won't try flying it till i am pretty good at the simulator.
and i'll take it real slow.
I'm also quick at learning things, so i think i'll pick up how to drive heli's pretty quick.

the 450SE v2 is the newest version of the T-Rex 450. I got a T-Rex 450 as my first heli and i have never crashed and i didn't learn on a sim... I was just careful!
Get the best equipment that you can afford... it will pay off in the long run!!!

I did eventually get Phoenix Sim (liked the graphics better than RF G3.5 and its cheaper!) Phoenix, IMHO also models helicopter characteristics better than RF G3.5.

As far as deciding on which version of T-Rex to get... get what best suits you...
the XL has plastic frames and a plastic head
the SA (same as S but it comes ARF) has aluminum frames and a plastic head
the SE has carbon fiber frames and a metal head.
the SE v2 is the same as the SE but it has several upgraded parts to it (swashplate, etc...)

a good setup would be...
Hitec HS-65MG servos for swash control
Futaba GY401/9650 gyro-servo combo.
3 cell 11.1v 2100 mAh li-po battery. i like thunder power
35 amp esc (SA, SE, ad SEv2 come with one but the XL has only a 25 amp esc) I burned up my 25 amp esc in a low hover so i dont trust them...

I use a Spektrum DX7 and absolutely love it!! its got more than you need for a T-Rex and it allows for growth + its 2.4 ghz!

hope this helps!

thanks for that reply, was really helpfull. I'm thinking of getting the V2 with a DX7. And your saying that i should get those other parts too? Also, is it hard to put the heli together? I never done it before.
And what site do you think i should buy it from? I live in canada so it has to be able to ship here. I tried readyheli but there out of stock.
thanks for the info

Trex 450 SE V2 is the newest, after the 450 SE. It is about 150 USD over SE, I flew both but did not find any different... I stay with SE

well, the T-Rex only comes with the helicopter, motor, electronic speed controller (esc), main blades, tail blades, and i think you can get a battery (but its a small one if i remember correctly).

you will need to buy the servos and gyro separately. i listed electronics that are the best, in my opinion, for the T-Rex. If money isn't a huge issue then i would go with what i mentioned. It pays to have better equipment than to have stuff that sucks and then crash because of it.

The T-Rex was my first heli and i had no real problems building it. i would go to heli-freak.com (oop... advertising for another site) and look for the "finless" T-Rex build tutorials, they are amazing and show you how to do EVERYTHING!!

i really like heliproz, amainhobbies, techmodelproducts (tech-mp.com), and Rick's RC helis (ronlund.com). you can also try your local hobby shop , most hobby shops carry Align kits and parts.

Complete stock.

I had a major crash yesterday on the stock plastic blades, it flew too far to see, nose dive from about 35 feet full speed, flybar, broken feathering shaft and "L" shape bended main shaft; about 8 USD that is it. Fixed it myself, spend an hour in the field and flew again...

Indeed, I was going for the V2, friend in LHS tried to convince me to stay with SE V1 to save some money for extra batteries, so he let me test fly both, then he was right. Excellent for beginner.

It comes with two sets of blades, one Align battery, ESC, motor. So all you need is a gyro, four servos, receiver and radio.

so with that combo, i will just need to buy:
DX7
Hitec HS-65MG servos for swash control
Futaba GY401/9650 gyro-servo combo

Is there anything else.
i'd like to try filling up a shopping cart with all the stuff that i'll need to see how much it'll cost me.
also do u know of any sites that carry these parts and that'll ship to canada.
thanks

oh and one more thing, is there a difference between the two dx7? i see that there is a microlite heli version.Which one should i get?

Just put in the 450 V2, with dx7, and Hitec HS-65MG Micro Servo. could't find Futaba GY401/9650 gyro-servo combo.
Price is at 915.97$. Is that about right

you only really need one battery but more is always better... gives the ability to fly when the others are charging.
you will need a battery charger that is capable of charging li-po batteries. I used the Electrifly Triton charger.
you will also need a source of electricity capable of producing 12v and several amps. i used this one: (http://www.radioshack.com/product/i...rentPage=search)
you'll need a reasonably powered soldering iron and solder to solder the connectors onto the various wires

you'll need 3 of the hs-65mg's
and you might want to stock up on various parts (main shafts feathering shafts, booms, flybars, blades, etc...)

there are several versions of the DX7 an airplane version and a heli version... the only difference is that one comes preprogrammed with the airplane config. and the other comes with the heli config. you can easily go into the main menu and change it up in a minute or two. also, the airplane version has a ratchet on the throttle but that can also be removed quite easily (most heli pilots dont like throttle ratchets)
i havent had any experience with the microlite version but I think it comes with the AR6100 rx or something like that. I went with the airplane version DX7 since the hobby shop didnt have any of the heli version...
