Hey all for the last year I have been blowing up tail rotor hubs, they just shear off at the narrows part of the hub. I have done every thing to stop this down to balancing the hole assembly as one. Well I blew the tail hub off for the last time, I decided to find a solution for the problem. The answer was Align 600 tail grips/hub and slider assembly, they work great and bolt up pretty simply. The only difference between the Robbe hub and 600h hub is the ball link on the 600 assembly is on the leading edge so you will have to check the direction of your tail before you fly. Plus the 600 tail hub assembly is a little smaller in diameter. That never made a big difference in the air. The bonus with this is the assembly and hub and grips and bearings cost maybe $40 bucks YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Where the Robbe hub alone cost $30 not to mention what the slider assembly costs.

Regards

Kevin.

Dont know what your doing to "blow up" your hubs.
Had a milly for more years than I care to remember, and can never recall having to replace the hub or any part of the tail except for crash damage.
What are you doing to cause it to fail?

Like yourself I have flown Robbe's for years, I have never had any prob's up until 2 years ago. My summery of why is 3 fold, one I think Robbe is using cheap metal to make there hubs, second it could be the gyros we use "GY611" have put alot of demand on the whole tail system 3rd or it could be my flying style. My Flying style is very demanding on the heli 75% of my flight would be made up of pirouetting. One maneuver I do that I know is very demanding on any heli is piro flip reversal, going from left hand piro flip to right hand piro flip. One other thing the hub we are using on the Robbe line of heli is the original hub that came on their Milli 1 which was a 60-size machine. The original tail hub even uses 2mm bolt to hold the tail blade grip on, this needs to be changed to 3mm. I think Robbe machines are the best machines around bar none, but as with all machines they have certain issues mine issue with Robbe right now is the tail rotor hub.

Those are my conclusions.

Kevin,

Yesterday I had the same thing going as you already expirienced.
Both sides sheared clean off the hub.
The heli is a Futura SE gasser with 1.80m rotor and 121mm tailblades.
It ran 1600 rpm when the blade holders blew off.
..
On the right is the hub as it's supposed to be...

One ballbearing in one of the bladeholders feels bad.
I wonder what can cause this hub to fail?

Regards,
Eric.

Hey, flying dyna-x electro and blown also one tailhub in the last year.

Upon today I always thought that is was some kind of vibration that caused this problem.

I've put one other on it and that one is still holding so far..

Maby we should consider to go for the Quik-UK stainless steel one.. think those are much stronger..

Hi Michael,

A few seconds before the blow-up there was the sound of a vibration which sounded like a kind of blade flutter.
It could be that the first bladeholder let go (did find the blade after 2 day's), and after that the second came off because of the exessive vibration.
Now I am in between converting the hub to the trex 600/700 tailhub with grips or keeping the stock parts.
pfff...
What shall we do??

You got a point there..
It is that the upgraded tailhub from align is also made of stainless steel.
I didn't know the tailhub is available as an upgrade from quick-uk!
Can you give me a link please, can't find it on the quick-uk website.

Ok,I'am with you now.
..
Tailpulley? you are going to keep your Robbe tailtransmission ofcoarse.
It starts with the pitchslider and the hub with bladeholders as I see it.
My tailrotor shaft did also got bent, yours too?
Now I use a Vario tailrotor shaft which is much harder.
It doesn't leave a mark at the grubscrew, it looks like this axle is machined too.

After conversation with friends here in Greece we realised that exists the problem on robbe tail hub.

For little time I buy parts for my dyna-x from this shop in Germany.
http://www.moskito-world.retail-net...il-net.de/SHOP/

Stefan explain to me that the tail hub (12,00 euros) to sell in shop ,is much harder from the robbe tail hub

So ,before 5 days I bought this hub and I wait to fit on my dyna

The problem with the original Robbe tail hub is the rececion in the diameter of the shaft at the point where it always breaks.
That makes a very bad stress point which is subject to metal fatigue.

I made some hubs with exactly the same diamensions but without this rececion and from stronger steel.
I have over 1200 logged flights the last 5 years with that same hub.
