Trex motor -- would that be a 430L or 430XL?

Facelift time. Those pics of my EP400XP on the first page of this thread look pretty pathetic. I decided to strip the canopy, glue the halves together (used CA), and repaint the canopy, then add the decals that have been laying around the garage for a couple years...

BTW -- I'm still waiting for someone who owns a 450V and who's FLOWN the 450V -- to let us know HOW it flies? How capable is it, and how does it compare to the Align 450 SA/SE?

First flight

Hi All,

I just finnished and building the Caliber 450V. The heli looks really nice. The build seem to have taken a lot of time. I have assembled a few 450Se, and 600CF. This little 450V took about as long to build as my Hirobo Freya .90 X-Spec. A lot of small parts. The small parts seem fragile.

Rock solid stability: This heli hovers rock solid. I have never flown a mini heli that was as stable as this heli. Also, this 450V seems to be a little under powered. It's probally my set up. I'm running -11, 0 +11. The ESC is on governor mode. Head speed is set at 2400 rpm. (my friend has a tach). The ESC is an Align 35G, the motor is an Align 430BL with a 27T pinion. (that was per the manual) The blades are Align's new carbon fiber. I'm going to try to take out some pitch. Maybe -10,0, and +10. If that does not help, then I'm probally going to get a 450 outrunner. The 450V has the head speed, but I think it lacks torque from the motor.

I think you'll be happier with a few more teeth on the pinion. 2400 RPM is a bit low. You might want to go as high as 32 teeth, possibly up to 34. That would get you into the 2800 - 3000 rpm range. I believe that's where my EP400XP stretch version ended up and it was pretty lively.

I have a Just Go Fly 450TH mounted in it at present.

Has anyone requested that someone develope a painted fiberglass canopy for this bird?

p.s. I read a recent review that kyoshos 325mm carbon fiber blades work well. Is anyone using them?

Come on folks; set up tips please!

Got an ep450v bls over here in Japan last year and built it up slowly over the winter. Been flying for a couple of weeks with no disasters, but it doesn't compare to my mini titan in terms of flyability.
I am still a bit of a novice; being middle aged, cautious, and only having two years experience. I'm having trouble setting up the 450v with my JR pcm9x II... seems to either want to hover, or go into ff flight (or fb flight for that matter). 20% expo on elevator makes some difference but not much.
I did add more rpm to the lower end of the throttle curve to cure the yo-yo effect...
Anyone with experience who has flown and set up one of these; advice please!

Cheers
Bill.

giving up

my last post seven months ago seems to have killed this thread.
no-one replied... tried a few ideas from japanese forums, but have now given up.
will soon be up for sale at the LHS.
i upgraded swash servos, fixed some tightness in the linkages, removed some slop from the head. still don't like the heli.
Thanks for your help folks (sarcasm).

I don't think your last post killed the thread, I just don't think there are a lot of 450V owners out there who read it.

I've been asking for some decent, detailed, honest flying reports for over a year, none have ever been posted.

It seems that people are all gung-ho when they buy one, but once it's built, there's not much they want to talk about.

This coming from a guy who built an EP400, started a long, detailed build thread for it, then who converted it to the EP400XP, and finally stretched it to accept 325 mm main blades. I was hoping to see some good, positive press about the 450V, but haven't seen squat.

-----

Of course, since you're no longer enamored with your 450V, you can always send it to me, I'll finish it up, set it up, and actually write something useful here about how it performs.

Hey Guys,

Honestly, mine is still in the box. Never been touched. It's one of several helis I purchased that has never been built. The other kits include a Hirobo Lepton, MS 350, MS Chinook and a Mini Titan. Yes, they are all still new in the box just waiting to be built and flown.

Hope that explains my reason for not adding any comments. I recall reading positive reviews on the 450V.

Caliber 450V

I've had a 450V for several months now and it flies great. My only complaint is the slide block tends to rotate on the shaft during agressive flight which cause unstable flight Mine is in pieces right now as a result. There is a 450V ver M coming out soon that will solve this problem by replacing plastic parts with metal. I'm just waiting for it to be available from Japan.

I'm really looking forward to piecing mine together. Over a year later and she's still in the box, amongst a few others. Shame on me!

Anyhow, the faulting piece you are referring to, can you be more specific? Do you mean the anti rotation pin? I'd like to make sure I pay attention to this issue during the build.
