If you want to torque the pin down more, just use a cap screw in place of the grub screw. More meat on the hexdriver means you wont be snapping off the end when you try and tighten it

Excuse me for asking a spectacularly stupid question (I am, unfortunatly, quite good at those):

Is this an issue on the Raptor 90 only? Is i only torque tube tail drive related?

I have been flyinga Raptor 50 recently and enjoying it greatly, but I do not want any surprises.

Thank you all in advance.

yeah, seems like its only with the raptor 90 drive torque system

You wont have any problems, just remember to tighten your belt during the cold seasons.

NO

The pin will still come out on a 50, ive had that happen as well. But it will get trapped in the tail case.

pin

it happens on the R90 and the R50 you need to check the pins every 50 flights or so it also a good idea that if you crash the you check the pins on the gear on the 90 on the PTO for the crown gear, this may seem like a pain but if you flying that hard or not its still a good idea it check them,

The picture from SBell is not of Pete's rings. Pete's are a delrin type material. SBell is using brass tubing which works great as well. IMHO, the rings from Pete's hobbies or the brass tubing is the ONLY way to go as far as this issue is concerned.

Gentlemen,

Thank you for the responses.

Next stupid question:

Is the pin retained (or suposed to be retained) by a 3mm set screw threaded into the end of the tail drive shaft?

Thank you all again.

Mine also crashed a few days ago due to the pin coming out in the bottom gear in the block where the boom originates. Im very pissed at TT's lack of a permanent solution.
I rebuilt it last night. What i did was I backed up the hex screw locking the pin with a normal screw and tightened it so it cannot back up now. do u think its a permanent fix?

im trying to come up with a permanent solution myself.

Im gonna red locktite the set screw, back up with a set screw.
And im gonna cut a piece of copper out and jbwield it to the gear.
Im gonna do this on both sides, in the case and frame.

I dont wanna take any chances.

Not from TT thats for sure..... we have thought of some good ideas to keep that pin in. If it were me, I would prolly epoxy that wretched thing in!

Personally, I would not JB weld the copper ring to the gear. (I'm not even sure the JB weld would hold on the plastic gear anyway.) If you get the right size copper tube, it's already a press on fit and if you should toast the gear for whatever reason, you can just pull the copper ring off and put it on your next set of gears.
