Can anyone give thier experiances or sugjestions on using Coleman fuel in a gasser engine? What Amsoil mixture ratio? Any special warnings or words of caution?

I love it. I use the WalMart brand "Ozark Trail" of Coleman fuel. I mix 2oz of AmsOil 100:1 synthetic (can get it at Ricks R/C).

When I switched from gasoline, I did not, and still haven't adjusted the needles at all. The engine runs great on it. In fact, you can't even tell the difference between gasoline and the white gas.

I keep my helis in the house, so smell was my significant reason for switching. You can't smell it at all. When fueling, if you spill it on your hands, it doesn't stay with you all day....

Storage is nice, too. I buy 3 or 4 gallons at a time, and just throw them in the cabinet in the garage. It'll last forever in it's sealed cans... No PIA going to gas station and filling red jugs...

Can you tell I like it? I'll never switch back. Try it, you'll like it.

About $3 a gallon for the Walmart Ozark Trail fuel. About a buck more for the Coleman.....

Why don"t you just buy methanol ? Cost is only about 2.00 a gallon or less.I use Cool power synthetic mixed at 4 ounces to a gallon.I have heard that you can:t mix ams oil with alcohol. You must switch to a glo version carb. You will need a much larger fuel tank as this fuel burns at a much higher rate than gas.You will be making more power though. Also when you are done flying for the day you must run the engine on a gas and oil mix for a minute or the carb. will not work right the next time you go to fly. Been flying my gasser this way for five years, works great.

Sounds like a lot of messing around, you have to keep two different fuel mixtures around. Power in the gas helis is not a problem, just the gas odor. With white gas there is no bad odor and no messing around with two different gas mixtures, Right CaliRaptor.
At the end of the day you will still have the gas oder.

I agree, sounds like a lot of work to do the methanol thing. Buy a can of Ozark or Coleman, add 2 oz of oil, and be done with it. The RC230 produces more way power than I can use anyway, so I'm not looking for that. The smell of white gas is nice! Tastes good, too!

I run it 64:1 Amsoil 100 (two oz. per gal) with Ozark also. Use the same mix in my Xcell gasser G23 and ZDZ 40. Runs great, no smell. Great stuff. My friend also runs it in his G230 on a Benzin. He's the one that got me started. In terms of power, I agree completely. Even my G23 has more than I need.

So which is it

Cali says ". I mix 2oz of AmsOil 100:1 synthetic "

haleypa1 says " I run it 64:1 Amsoil 100 (two oz. per gal) "

I just purchased a Gasser and I am new to the mixture ratio's.
If one guy mixes 2 oz of oil into a gallon and gets 100:1 how does another mix the same 2 oz into a gallon and get 64:1???
maybe you guys can map out what the ratio's for me.Thanks

100:1= how many oz per gallon
80:1 how many oz per gallon etc...

Oil Ratio..

Howdy!!!
2 ounces is 64:1..
4 ounces is 32:1..
8! ounces is 16:1..
I used to run my old Yamaha YZ 490 on 16:1.. You could smell me (oily exhaust smoke smell) when I walked in the house 3 rooms away!!!
JEFF
I run 2.5 ounces to the gallon, which is a hair over 50:1..

TV, easy answer. It's all in the wording! The product is "AmsOil 100:1 Synthetic Oil". I add 2 ounces of that product to a gallon of fuel. My mix is not 100:1, it's only the name of the product.

It could be mixed at 100:1 because it is synthetic, but I follow the God of Gassers (BillMe) advice and do the 2oz/gal ratio.

Well that makes sense guys thanks.I should have figured it out because it says right on my invoice Amsoil 100:1 sythetic 2-cycle oil Hommer Simpson sound" Dooh".
So 64:1 =64 parts gas to 1 part oil
50:1 =50 parts gas to 1 part oil
so 50:1 is more oil than 64:1 correct.
So a little over 3oz like 3.1 oz will give me close to 50:1??
How about break in should I start with gas then move to Colman?
What ratio should I start will for a RC 230
Thanks

Tom, use the 2oz for break-in. Some people feel that more is better, when it comes to oil. In this case, that is not true. Think of it this way. Everything you add to the gasoline, makes for less gasoline per gallon. Very little of the oil burns, so adding too much only takes away from the amount of gas that can "fit" per gallon. Running the Amsoil 100:1 at 2oz and leaner, allows you to run MORE gas, which makes for a more powerful engine, running cooler. I would start with the 2oz mix and gasoline.

Also, keep in mind, we are speaking of US gallons here, not Imperial gallons.

Well since I'm in Canada we use Liters not Imperial gallons.I believe that's in the UK.
Well we have WallMart here too so i'll just add 2 oz to one container just like Cali said.
Thanks

Tvaillancourt,

To mix equilvalent of 100:1 AMSoil you mixed it at 4.75 litre of regular unleaded fuel to 50 CC of AMSoil.. That's what I mixed mine. works great.

Here is what you can find in the your LHS.. it's very accurate.. 2 Oz mix is more oil than the 100:1.

Thanks Heli_Gal.I picked up the same purple and white Beauty you bought.I'm getting mine from Dan also.Should be here on Thursday.Mine is in kit form though.
SO what is the correct conversion of a us gallon.Heli_Gal you stated 4.75 liters. I believe that is Imperial gallons
Is it not 3.785 liters to a US gallon here in Canada1 gallon (gal)

1 gallon (gal)
= 4.0 quart
= 8.0 pint
= 16.0 cup
= 3.785 liter

1 Imperial gallon
= 4.5459 liter
