Hi Bill,
Ya want a write off, have a kid. Then you won't have to worry about spending all your money. It will be like depositing a Black Hole into your bank acount.

Isn't that the truth.

Congrats Bill.

kookboy,
how about another field report. Still liking them for framing? Got past the initial learning curve yet? (I need an excuse to buy this seasons toys before the wife makes me do something sensible with the money).

I've been using them on and off since I got them.

Used to them now.

I really don't have anything else to compare them to, but for me, they do the job.

Sometimes the screen washes out when it's very bright (direct sunlight on the eyepiece), so I just wear a cap.

Other than that, I like it.

I still can't see justifying more than $500-600 tops for them. In my opinion (without seeing other HMD's), I wouldn't pay more than that for them (I got decent deals on both sets).

Judging from what I've read and heard, these 'may' be similar (don't quote me on that) to the newer eyetops except with these you can swap from left to right and the eyepiece itself is very adjustable.

Also the resolution is nice. 640x480 compared to the 'others' at 320x240.

Latest?

Kookboy, how are these working out for you? How about a 'long term' review. Still finding them valuable?

Not that good

They arent the greatest for AP. The biggest problem is the circuitry. If the unit doesnt get a 100% video signal it goes to a default screen. Well as yo know your AP video signal isnt always 100% even when its good. So it ends up always cutting in and out when on a normal monitor it looks fine.

It works good for me, however I switch between a tripod/LCD setup and the 920's depending on the weather.

I haven't had them cut out before but the glare needs to be reduced by hat/cap or a type of sunshade and the reflection can creep up behind you while looking in.

It's personal preference just like the eyetops. Some like them, while others do not.

I Froogled my Eyetops and got them for $150 (including portable DVD player, two VERY nice pouches and a bunch of batterys, etc, etc.)on a factory refurbished set - LUCKY find!

The screen is only .3" across but has an advertised visual appearance of 30". Since I have post 40 disease, my close up vision is CRAP now, so that little screen one inch from my eye was useless for me. Clever fellow that I am, I purchased a pair of 3x readers from the Dollar Store (now driving my cost up to $151) -proceeded to cut a .5" square out of it with my trusty dremel and epoxied this over the existing screen. Now my little screen is very clear and even larger - reccomended mod for even the young ones among us btw.

The great things about the Eyetops was that they double as sunglasses (not exactly Oakleys, but just about right for our Boise sun) I cut a small piece of black felt and glued it across the top, right frame of the glasses effectively cutting out all glare.
Finally, I put a large rubber band between the two temple arms (yes, they're really called that) to keep the Eyetop very secure and snug.
Wow! This is the ticket for solo work. The resolution is 76,800 pixels which is pretty huge for a .3" screen and the colors are spot on.

I love my hat-mounted Eyetops - they work superbly!

These are the Classic Eyetops but I've modified them to be like the Centras (with the screen under the eye instead of to the right of it).

If you're after a set, check out this thread:
