I'm looking for a regulated power system to power up my raptor. I see that the t-rex 600 has a regulated power system. Seems to work well for many. Can we use this in our raptors or say nitro 50 birds? The bec can use 2cell lithium ions or lithium polymers. This setup will be lightweight and cost effective to fromecos and duralites. Any insights?

If you're talking about the Align RCE-B3X, rated at 3A, sounds like a heck of a deal for less than $20. It comes with the 5.1V step down but you you don't need it since the regulator puts out 5.8V (below 6V).

But then again . . . . . http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/p2440334

The average current draw on my Raptor 50 is close to 2A , I suspect it draws more than 3A at times .

At the end of the day , it gets dark .

Well, Align now make a 6 amp bec....

http://www.readyheli.com/K10364A_Ex...0_p/k10364a.htm

But it comes without the 6volt stepdown.....

Yea, the new BEC looks beefed up. Heatsink and now its rated at 6amps. For 16.99 and then buy the 5.1v step down for 3.99. It's still hella cheap.

I have two 3amp and two 6amp align bec's, and use them in my trex600,roxxter33 and roxxter 55 without any issues at all.
They work flawlessly. I use hitec 6965 on cyclic and 9254 in the tail and the bec does not get warm at all.

What's the part number on the 6A ?Never mind, it's a RCE-B6X

Now this is better and at only $17, ideal for a 2S-2200 pack and run everything off the regulator.

I don't see the need for the 5.1 step down.

The 5.1 stepdown are for servos like i.e. futaba 9254 or 9253 that is not rated for 6volts.
At least it says so in the bec's manual...

My arithmetic says that 5.8 is still less than 6.0

And the 6V limit is for a 6V NiCd pack that can be as high as 7V off the charger (which the regulator will prevent going to the electronics).

so could you use the 6v system, and plug the 5.1v step down in between the BEC and the receiver powering the receiver with the stepdown, so everything is getting 5.1v???

I douby the 5.1 step-down could handle the whole system.
Too much current.

i will be installing one on a Raptor with Hitec HS635 on cycic, Futaba 9451 on collective, HS525 on throttle (w/ TJ Pro) and 401/9254. I have an 1850 2S 15C DN lipo. I don't have a flight report yet since I haven't installed it (this week I hope) but I think I'll be safe with the 3A limit. I generally put in less than 900ma after 3 flights into the 1400ma A sized NiCD. Flights are around 10 minutes, so that's about 1800ma in an hour. Am I peaking above 3A? maybe for short bursts but it this any different than a 120 deg swash'd Trex-600 with 9351's, a 611 on the tail and a hot shot pilot?

I do wish that I'd seen the 6A variant before ordering the BEC and perhaps I'll swap it out, but for now I think I'll be OK.

If not, I will drop a note on RR for sure

btw- the 5.1 is meant just for the tail servo.

The 6A variant with tail stepdown seems like a VERY cheap option for those not wanting to spend the dollars on an Arizona Reg.

I also like the fact that a power switch AND onboard voltwatch lights are built into the Align Reg. Had they had a 6A version when I got my Arizonas, I may have tried one due to the fact that the Arizona is mighty big on a 50 sized bird. Plus the Lithium onboard monitors are bloody expensive! WAY more than the cost of the whole Align reg in fact. Align seem to be on to it in many ways. Good on them.

A) the 6A variant does not come with the 5.1 step down.
B) You don't need the 5.1 step down . . . . 5.8 is still less than 6.0

A) I never said it did, what I did say is that the BEC/Reg + The stepdown is a cheap option = approx $20. The components are separate but the total cost is still $20.

B) I disagree, if the rudder servo specifies 4.8v (as most do) you will want to run the stepdown. At least I would!

I haven't figured out where to run it yet because I want to prevent oil from getting on it (as much as possible) but still would like to see the LED's and have access to the switch. I may possibly mount it just in front of the pitch tray and live with using a standard switch harness. Battery pack will be mounted beneath the radio tray with a big strap of velcro, some double sided foam tape and some 1/4" foam wrapped around it - standard for my battery install now.

I'll post pix once it's done.

The only problem with the batt beneath the radio tray is that it gets in the way of access to the glowplug IMO.
